St George & Sutherland Community College Incorporated Trading as SGSCC International is the first Community College in Australia to deliver Vocational Courses to overseas students through SGSCC International.
SGSCC is one of the largest and most successful Community Colleges in Australia. SGSCC delivers over 400 courses across 30 venues in the southern Sydney regions of St George and Sutherland Shire.
These regions offer an affordable, safe and friendly environment for you to learn and achieve the qualifications to give you a global future.
HISTORY
SGSCC can trace its roots to the 1930’s when a small number of Evening Colleges operated in the South of Metropolitan Sydney. At this time these organisations were run by the Education Department in NSW, utilising high school accommodation in the evenings. They mostly offered leisure learning, some adult literacy and high school qualifications.
1979 – Began a number of post school education programs for People with Disability (PWD) to assist them to maintain their foundation skills and prepare them for the workforce and independent life in the community.
1982 – Sutherland Evening College was formed.
1994 – Amalgamated with St George College to become St George and Sutherland Community College. Introduced Vocational Education and Training, (VET) to community college programs.
1998 – College secured Adult Migrant English program with primary delivery taking place at Hurstville Centre.
2009 – SGSCC launches SGSCC International, the first community college in Australia to launch into ELICOS, offering English for General Purposes and English for Academic purposes to overseas students.
Today – St George & Sutherland Community College offers over 400 courses in over 30 venues throughout the St George and Sutherland areas across it Leisure, WorkSkills, English, SchoolAge, disAbility and International departments. Over 12, 000 students attended courses in 2011. The business is supported by 272 staff members.
