About Shakhee Incorporated

In India 1 in 4 girls drop out of school due to lack of sanitary padsHard to believe but it is true! Almost 70% of girls in India don't use sanitary pads. Most of them use cloth. Cloth in itself is not a problem if it is clean and dried in the sun to eradicate bacteria. But taboo prevents these girls from doing this out in the open and so they often hide their period cloths to dry under other garments. This stops them from drying properly. Living in high-density apartments or slum areas, as most of these girls do, means that even the simple act of hanging out the washing is a daily challenge. Clean water is a problem too. Washing these cloths with unclean water carries its risks. Unhygienic cloth leads to dirt and disease being carried into the vagina, leading to reproductive and urinary tract infections. Approximately 70% of all reproductive diseases in India are caused by poor menstrual hygiene. How is the lack of pads affecting the school drop out rates?health deteriorationleakage due to these non-absorbent clothslack of water in schools /lack of toilets to clean any leakagesome girls take a few days off in a month but when they return to school there is too much to catch up and they slowly lose interest and eventually drop out.
