Visit @artgalleryofnsw to see Wiradjuri/Kamilaroi artist Jonathan Jones’ artwork, ‘(untitled) illuminated tree)’, gifted to the collection by Dr Gene Sherman AM @sherman_gene and Mr Brian Sherman AM. Pritzker-prize winning architect Shigeru Ban @shigeruban has sprung into action in the midst of a disaster zone, mobilising his Voluntary Architects Network (VAN) to set up temporary ‘homes’ for victims of the Japanese floods and give families much needed privacy in a time of devastation and uncertainty. The temporary partition systems are made from paper tubes and cloth curtains. In Ban’s own words, “It is our mission as professional architects to make living environments better. We are just doing our job”. Sherman Contemporary Art Foundation was proud to present Shigeru Ban’s first Australian project ‘The Inventive Work of Shigeru Ban’ in 2017. . 1943: shopkeeper's son Brian Sherman is born into a tight-knit Jewish community in a small South African mining outpost. The Holocaust is raging in Europe and the Apartheid regime is at its height. In 1976, with only $5,000 to his name, he moves to Australia with his young family to start a new life. Nothing can prepare Brian for his meteoric rise or for the life-changing tests he will face. At his kitchen table he starts a fund management business with his friend Laurence Fr...eedman. In 1986, they float a novel investment fund on the American Stock Exchange and raise over a billion Australian dollars. More billions follow, and opportunity flows. ‘The Lives of Brian Sherman’ is now available for purchase through online suppliers and in-store, please contact our SCCI office if assistance is required.
