Shorin Ryu Kyudokan Karate-Do & Kobudo - Newcastle, Australia Description

We teach traditional Okinawan Shorin Ryu Karate handed down by the forefathers of karate in Okinawa, Japan, the birth place of karate. Kyudokan Higa-te School is headed by Grandmaster Oscar Masato Higa (10th Dan - Hanshi), nephew of late Yuchoku Higa O'Sensei, the founder of Kyudokan.

Kyudokan Higa-te school is based on the following principles;

~ Mi-wo-Mamoru (protecting the body)
~ Marumi Muchimi (circularity and continuity)
~ Yin-Yang (principle of duality)
~ Kokyu (deep abdominal breathing)
~ Gamaku / Work of Hara (Generating power through the circular work of the hips and core strength)
~ Chakugan (Awareness and prepardeness)
~ and Ki (Energy generation from inside to outside)

Kyudokan is traditional school, yet we believe in continuous research on body dynamics and improvement of the technique. Kyudokan's advanced principles allow a person at any age to begin their training with their own abilities and limits.

The Okinawan art of weaponry is called Kobudo. We teach bo (6 foot staff) and sai along with karate for those who are interested. Separate kobudo classes can be also arranged to those who are interested only in Kobudo. This can be useful to students and instructors practicing other karate styles to improve themselved with the addition of kobudo into their training.

The instructor Indishe Senanayake Sensei (5th Dan- Karate / 3rd Dan- Kobudo), started Shorin-Ryu karate training at very young age and has over 20 years of experience in Shorin Ryu Karate. He was appointed as the Sri Lanka representative of the Kyudokan School in 2002 by Grandmaster Minoru Higa and Grandmaster Oscar Higa. Indishe is the owner of Heiwa Martial Arts Academy, a traditional Okinawan Dojo located in Sri Lanka. He represented Sri Lanka at the World Okinawan Karate Kobudo Tournaments held in Okinawa, Japan in 2003 and 2009.

Indishe moved to Newcastle, Australia in 2016 to commence his PhD studies in environmental engineering and available for private lessons around Newcastle at his spare hours.
