It’s ALL about the timber -

Every piece is uniquely hand crafted from salvaged North Coast hard wood species*. The pieces are remnants from ancient land giants, which once formed the vast wet sclerophyll hardwood forest of the Northern Rivers.

At the time of their dominance these were giant seed trees spaced intermittently amongst the grass land slopes. Most of the tree’s were a minimum of 3-4 metres in diameter and 30 metres tall. The size of each Silhouette is determined by the chunk of timber sourced.

Most people are aware of the beauty of our North Coast hardwoods, through many of the hardwood products available (flooring, paneling and furniture). Because most of these value added products are processed, they are cut from live trees to enable efficient processing from the sawing stage. Therefore the timber in these Silhouettes is relatively new.

Our salvaged pieces are old, that is why you may not recognise the common species of Blackbut, Ironbark and Greygum. The curved nature of the Silhouettes accentuates the timber grain, not often seen in today’s modern hardwood products.
