The #EarthMarkets are back tomorrow from 12.30pm at The Levee Central Maitland. This month's special are Kensington Pride mangos from QLD. If you can't make it to the markets, but want to pick up a Prepaid Box late in the afternoon, there'll be mangos in there too!
Order TODAY for pick-up tomorrow. Remember: We will deliver right to your business on The Levee if you request it. See you soon!
This Thursday at the Earth Market you can get pesticide free, biodynamically grown Kensington Pride mangos right here in Maitland. They'll be $2 each or 6 for $10 and this is a one off since the mangos are coming from QLD.
The mangos are are on their way from Townsville and will be sold at the Earth market this Thursday 15th November (remember the earlier start time of 12.30pm).
Seven pickers picked all day to rescue a ton of mangos! They couldn’t rescue them all but they ha...ve done their best and the result is a ton of mangos bound for Maitland.
This food rescue has come about because when the mangos are ready in the Townsville region, they are picked in a three week period, creating a glut. Small-scale farmers like Helen and Bruce Hill cannot compete on price and volume so their prod, so this ton of mangos would be wasted and another farmer left without an income.
So in keeping with Slow Food’s “no waste” philosophy and in support of our current November Food for Change campaign, shoppers can stock up and know that an Australian farmer is selling their crop right here in Australia and Maitland is doing its bit.

Soaking dry beans overnight before cooking (for hours) can deter people from cooking with dried beans and peas. BUT, you can always used the canned versions which are cheap and convenient.
Ever tried black-eyed peas? They are delicious when cooked with a little pork. This recipe only uses 150 grams of pork or ham and four slices of bacon. For a faster version, just add canned black-eyed peas to the pork and simmer for 15 minutes. Try it this weekend!
The Slow Food movement is not about "slow cooking!" You might think we're just those farmers market people, but we do a lot more than that. Take a look!
