About Slow Food In Australia

Slow Food in Australia is part of the global Slow Food network that has grown into a movement involving millions of people in over 150 countries. Founded in 1989 by Italian journalist and environmental activist Carlo Petrini, Slow Food is a non-profit, grassroots organisation that aims to counteract fast food and fast life, the disappearance of local food traditions and people's dwindling interest in the food they eat, where it comes from and how it tastes. Supporters of Slow Food recognise that our food choices can make a positive difference in the world – to people, local communities, animals, plants and the environment. Members and supporters of Slow Food aim to create a world in which all people can access and enjoy food that is good for them, good for those who grow it, good for the surrounding community and good for our planet. The Slow Food approach aims to preserve traditional foods and regional food cultures by supporting the production of food that is good, clean and fair. GOOD: quality, flavoursome and healthy food that satisfies the senses and is part of local cultureCLEAN: production and consumption that does not harm the environment, animal welfare or our healthFAIR: accessible prices for consumers and fair conditions and pay for producers
