About Small Farms Network - Capital Region

The Small Farms Network – Capital Region is a grassroots information service for people who own or live on small to medium sized rural properties.

Small Farms Network - Capital Region Description

Are you wondering how to make your small farm more productive? Confused about managing stock or the myriad of ‘best’ grazing strategies? Wondering how to have healthy horses and grassy paddocks? Wanting to establish shelterbelts, rehabilitate a creek or fix erosion? Tired of sitting on the lawn mower all weekend?

The Small Farms Network – Capital Region is a grassroots information service for people who own or live on small to medium sized rural properties around the Capital region. We run field days, paddock walks and other events packed with information relevant to managing small farms in our local area.

Topics depend on the interests of participants but can include:

– grazing techniques

– animal husbandry

– designing properties for horses

– managing weeds

– revegetation and establishing trees

– property planning

– poultry and agriculture.

We aim to share local knowledge and tap into professional advice about all things farming. Working as a community network we are able to get help from scientists, agronomists, veterinarians, natural resource consultants and other specialists with a special focus on the needs of small farms.
