Something Borrowed – Black Tie Charity Ball

About Something Borrowed – Black Tie Charity Ball

Co-founded by Bec Badcock and Angie Tan, Something Borrowed is a black tie charity ball born out of lateral thinking and a desire to turn lemons into lemonade. Specifically, when Angie and Mr Wrong decided they weren't right for each other 3 months before they were meant to say 'I do'. Anyone who has been on a course that feels too far along to correct, but did it anyway, knows it comes with great emotional and financial costs. All the non-refundable deposits for the luxurious venue, photo booth, stylist etc would go to waste. Thousands of dollars down the drain. While it's understandable that non-refundable deposits protect businesses, it was tragic that others would profit from Angie's misfortune. So why not throw a charity ball and donate the money to people who need it more? Bec proposed. Angie agreed. The two, along with an army of helpers, worked tirelessly to create Something Borrowed within 3 months. And it was a smashing success! Something Borrowed sold out and, on 8 April 2017, guests partied for a good cause & changed lives at the same time. Between ticket sales, the live auction, raffle and donations, the Something Borrowed Community were able to change the lives of over 200 families in developing countries through Opportunity International Australia who provides microloans that empower women to start a business, earn an income and work their way out of poverty. Another goal was to raise awareness for Opportunity International Australia. Through press coverage and social sharing, the story appeared on Daily Mail UK, Mamamia, Whimn.com. au, Sydney Morning Herald, Yahoo! 7, That's Life and unpredictably went viral in China, was picked up by publications in Hong Kong, New Zealand and even Romania. Visits to OIA's website more than quadrupled, an unprecedented result. The message is powerful and clear – brave decisions, inspire change. We encourage you to ask yourself, 'What brave decision will you make to make someone else's life better?'
