About Southern Black Simmentals
Southern Black Simmentals (SBS) was established in 2013 with the initial acquisition of breeders and calves sourced from Wendouree Simmentals at Crookwell and New Horizon Simmentals at Cowra. The herd is based in Southern NSW and is run between two properties. The nucleus of the breeding herd is based at Lake Bathurst in the NSW Southern Tablelands, with younger cattle reared at Berry on the NSW South Coast.
Although only in its early stages, the SBS herd is managed under strict commercial conditions with females needing to be fertile, structurally sound and easy doing. Breeders must have an ability to calve unassisted but retain the growth and performance of Simmental cattle.
