Bat habitat built into your house.
What a great idea! What do you think? Would you consider replacing a couple of bricks in your home so that bats continue to have habitat in the urban environment?

Take the Pledge to tackle food waste
If you are doing your grocery shopping in the Bathurst City Centre today, be sure to visit the Netwaste stall from 10 – 2pm where you can pledge to put your food waste in your lime green organic bin. You’ll get some great info, a handy sticker, and feel good about doing something positive for our environment by reducing the amount of waste going to landfill.

Bushfire Danger Period starts 1 September 2018
The Rural Fire Service (RFS) have announced that the Bushfire Danger Period will commence 1 September. That means that all open burns* will require an inspection and permit from the RFS prior to lighting. Council's open burn approvals for properties <10ha will not be issued after 31 August.
If you need to undertake hazard reduction on your property you should contact the RFS on 1300 258 737. For fires on properties less than 10h...a and in village or city limits, also contact Council on 6333 6511.
REMEMBER: Before ANY open burn - contact the RFS and notify all adjoining neighbours at least 24 hours before lighting. *You do not need to notify or obtain a permit for a recreation or cooking fire that is less than 1m wide but keep an eye out for Total Fire Ban Days.

Ride or walk, and feel better for it.
Cycling and walking are not only the best form of transport for health, they also make us feel good about ourselves.
Do you walk or ride to get to work, school or uni? Where do you think there should be cycle ways put in Bathurst to help you get to where you are going safely?

Road Safety and Recycling Kindy Program
Yesterday Andrew and Alison from the Engineering Section of Council visited Raglan Public School and spoke with the kindergarten students about road safety and recycling. It is always a great opportunity to talk to some of our youngest residents about staying safe and what they can do to help our environment.

Electric vehicles are coming - and we are almost ready now.
A great article showing that, like your phones and tablets, you recharge your car at night and it is fully charged in the morning. Most EV owners don't need to use public chargers unless taking a road trip. Imagine only visiting a petrol station a few times a year?
Council will be making announcements about its own electric vehcile plans soon.

Everyone's talking about the War on Waste
Did you watch last night's episode of the ABC's War on Waste? It is well worth a watch, even if you don't want to think about dumpster diving and 'bin juice this early in the morning'... Craig Reucassel show us the staggering scale of waste we produce. But there are things that can be done - watch and be inspired by young Molly and the Straw No More campaign. Missed the show? No worries, catch it on iView at https://ab.co/2LJ9c8M.
