About Sydney High School Old Girls' Union

The Sydney High School Old Girls' Union (SHSOGU) is a place for friends and alumni of Sydney Girls High School to come together and celebrate its legacy.

Sydney High School Old Girls' Union Description

The Old Girl's Union was founded in 1898, fifteen years after the founding of our school. A group of ex-students decided they should form a Union and unanimously elected as president Mrs Lucy Garvin, the initially appointed Headmistress of the school. The organisation was originally named the Old High School Girls’ Union. There was no need to identify the name of the school since the school was the only High School for Girls in Sydney at that time. The new Union awarded its first prize to the school in the name of the Old Girls’ Union.

In the intervening years, the name of the Union has been adapted to identify the High School and it is now an incorporated association.

Our annual get-together is the Annual Reunion Luncheon which is traditionally held on the second Saturday in November in the beautifully refurbished Campbell Hall at Sydney Girls. In 2017, the luncheon will be held on November 11th. All friends and old girls are welcome.
