What should I do to prolong my tan?

Prepare the skin by exfoliating with Walnut body polish prior to the spray tan, this will remove the body of dead skin cells. Apply Crème de la Crème daily or the Gradual Tan to maintain constant colour in the skin. Avoid long hot baths, swimming, saunas, excessive sweating. Drink plenty of water to keep the skin hydrated. You should expect 7-12 days from a spray tan when maintained as per above. Expect 4-7days if none of the above is maintained.

BEFORE YOUR TAN

-Exfoliate before each tan
Start exfoliating a few days prior to your appointment for truly spectacular results! Please pay close attention to knees, feet and elbows as the skin in this area tends to be a bit dryer. You want to effectively remove any dead skin and expose the fresh, new skin cells underneath. This will help the skin absorb the solution better, enabling the tan to last longer and fade more evenly. .

-Hair removal
Shaving should be done 8 hours prior to tanning, the day before or a day or two after the tan. Waxing and depilatory use needs to be done a day before the tan. As understandably these processes can remove the tan if done after. It is best to shave or wax one or two days before, as the bronzer can get into the newly created pores and can give you “spotty” look. So the earlier the better! Tip: Hair removal should be done after exfoliation to minimise irritation!

-Don’t wear any deodorant, moisturizer or makeup
Do not apply any moisturiser, deodorant or perfume etc, as this will interfere with the tan. These products will stop the spray tanning solution going through. Some others will turn the armpits green until you shower. **Please be careful not to use soap on the day of your tan as the chemicals and fat found in soap can create a barrier between your skin and the tanning solution.

DURING THE TAN

Jewellery
Please remove all jewellery and contact lenses.

Clothing
You are welcome to wear as little or as much as you wish. The tanning solution I use is all natural so it usually comes out of garments in the wash. Even out of white garments!

Hair
Hair is to be clipped up off neck.

Precautions
Please hold your arms away from your body.

POST TAN CARE

Clothing
After the tan please wear dark coloured loose clothing, thongs or loose shoes. Tight clothing that rubs on the skin will cause uneven tanning. Bra straps tend to create lines also.

Showering
Please note that your first shower is just a 30 second warm rinse with no soap. The next day you are free to shower normally. Note: if you have your spray tan done in the morning then you can have another light rinse 6-8 hours after your first rinse off. During your shower you will notice spray tan solution washing away. Don’t worry… this is not your tan coming off, it’s just the excess colour guide (bronzer) that is sitting on your skin

Rinse off time
For varied results please look at how long to leave your tan on before rinsing. Any questions just call me!

LIGHT= 1 hour
MEDIUM= 2 hours
DARK= 3. 5 hours
X DARK= 4 hours

Showering the next day
Wash with SLS free body wash. (It is better for you anyway) Don’t scrub the body harshly. Wash just using your hand with the gel. Vani-T has an all natural, delicious smelling, SLS free body wash that I can order in if you wish. After washing, pat body dry – don’t rub. Please do this for the next 10 days to ensure you don’t rub off the tan too much.

Activities
Don’t swim, perspire or exercise until after your post-tan shower.

Moisturising is the key ladies
Twice daily, you should use an effective body moisturiser to keep your body hydrated. This will prevent patchiness and prolong the tan.

PRELONG YOUR TAN

A great way to extend the life of your tan is to use a gradual tan moisturiser. You can touch up and moisturize at the same time.
Touching up your tan in the morning and moisturizing should take no more than a minute at the most, and you will look great from the first, to the last day! ! Be careful of which tanning cream you use, some tanning creams like ‘Johnson and Johnson Holiday Skin’ have quite an orange undertone. Vani-T makes a great ‘Bronzing custard’ that I can order this for you if you want.

PLEASE AVOID

-Chlorine
Please avoid chlorine, salt-water pools and spas. Chlorine acts as a bleaching agent on the skin.

-Long /hot baths
Soaking in the tub will make your skin exfoliate faster

-Soaps
Soaps containing SLS, soap bars and Sorbolene

BEFORE YOUR NEXT TAN

Exfoliate
I personally love those exfoliating mittens, they work so efficiently and you can just throw them in the washing machine to clean! If you need me to source you one or two of these heavy-duty mitts, let me know!


BEFORE YOUR NEXT SPRAY
Make a paste containing baking soda, lemon juice and water, gently rub into the skin for a few minutes. Then take a long soaking bath (20-30 minutes), exfoliating lightly. Dry briskly with a towel, rubbing any stubborn areas as required. Better yet jump in a chlorinated pool and this will remove everything!
