The Artists Studio /Gallery is the creative hub of Sydney and Tahiti based artist Tania Wursig.
A working studio and gallery space open for exhibitions and events and by appointment.

Tania Wursig's work is predominantly a celebration of life with an exotic, bohemian flavour, flamboyant colour palette and strong cultural influences that span from the Gypsy caves of Granada to the islands of Polynesia.
Having a career that spans more than 2 decades which includes numerous exhibitions held both nationally and internationally, 6 years directing and curating her own Gallery, (Gallery Aloft) and a 3 month annual painting residency in Tahiti, Tania's works are held in public and private collections worldwide.
In her Sydney studio Tania teaches art classes and during the months of July, August and September, Tania is artist in residence at Le Meridien Tahiti where she runs painting workshops on the islands of Tahiti, Bora Bora and Huahine aptly named 'Painting in Paradise'. (see website for details)
Whilst maintaining a solid career as a visual artist, in 2013 Tania established herself in the world of textiles with the launch of her new brand;

‘Fero’ - work in progress, maybe? Not sure whether to add colour or leave it as is.... to me it is reminiscent of the old, sepia, colonial photographs, which is the look I was going for when I did the photo shoot for this body of work. But the colour in my photograph is exquisite. This will be the centre piece for my upcoming exhibition in Tahiti entitled ‘Postcards from Paradise’. This title is supposed to stimulate a reflection on those images when colonial rule and ideals... attempted to completely erase the Tahitian culture, language and traditions. Clearly these vintage ‘Tahitian’ images convey a sense of loss, sadness, oppression and vulnerability. This is particularly prevalent in the images of the women, who under colonial rule were forced to wear neck to knee ‘Mother Hubbard’ dresses, yet when it suited the ‘colonial’ male gaze they striped them naked to photograph. I know all my models in Tahiti and I have become close friends with most of them. I have noticed over the years the natural love and fierce pride they have in their culture. By placing these ‘modern’ Tahitians in a similar scene I am attempting to remind and illustrate the importance, strength and power of culture. In a way reclaiming their power for their ancestors.

A very successful Weekend Workshop. These wonderful women braved the heat and produced some stunning pieces.
