Taralga Historical Society Description

The Museum and Grounds

In January 1853 an acre of ground granted to James Macarthur by the crown was given to Mr. Denning for the purpose of building a Weslyen Church. The church was built and open ed by Rev. W Curnow (Goulburn) together with Rev. R. V. Danne (Crookwell). It was used on and off for many years by congregations of the Wesleyans and later Methodists for their services and finally closed in the 1950’s. Several local people, interested in preserving the history of the village formed the Taralga Historical society, this group approached the Uniting Church N. S. W. Synod, with which the Methodist Church had amalgamated and they were able to obtain the old church as their headquarters in 1972.

The museum is open MOST Sunday afternoons from 1pm until 4 pm (depending upon volunteers) and long week ends in June and October. We welcome inquiries from groups, and coach companies on other occasions.
