Reviews
Traditional sort of pub so I'm giving it 5 stars because that is what I like. Chicken parmy is exactly, exactly, what a pub chicken parmy should be.
Not a bad pub. Had a few beers and dinner there one night. I was happy with the range of beer, although not craft beer. The food was decent, but the so called "Buffalo" wings were anything but Buffalo. Still tasty, just not what I expected. The burger was a little on the pricey side to be served well done, should've been served medium.
My new favourite place. Food is amazing and beer is cold to perfection. Also the people will treat you extremely well there.
Had a really nice stay here. The room was nice and clean, basic but comfortable. There's a nice breakfast room available for guests. Would recommend as a good, budget stay.
very happy with the service, accommodation, affordability and location of the Grand Hotel. 24hr free breakfast buffet which is great for those travelling through and not wanting to spend copious amounts of money on eating out. Shared bathroom facilities with two on each floor with separate bath and shower. also two separate toilets on each floor. These facilities were clean and it once did i have to wait to use the bathroom.
all staff; bar, restaurant and cleaning staff were extremely friendly and approachable.
stayed two nights, and would definitely return.
Great for small groups good food and friendly staff
Another pub with slow service because wait staff prefers to be hip than efficient
Has White Rabbit Dark Ale on tap. Hence 5 Stars.
Good pub to stop in for a drink. Decent food.
A great little pub. Comfortable, busy but not crowded, and super friendly staff.
Old pub charm. Had a room booked for a function. Service was good. Food was so so.
Food: boarderline okay, atmosphere: not too bad, but the locatction is very good.. one problem about merivale pubs is their limited beer menu. This pub doesnt have a TAB. accommodation available upstairs but im unable to comment as i havent used it.
Not for elderly or handicapped people. The elevator requires you open the two doors manually. They are rather heavy. Sometimes the elevator doesn't align correctly so there's a slight step up or step down, a to hazard.
No air conditioner, no bathroom en suite. You have to go down the hall. The shower has a significant step up which can be challenging.
The "breakfast room" is open 24 hours but only has a little food. Instant coffee, 4 sugar cereals, bread, and milk/juice in the refrigerator. A sign asks you to wash your own dishes. The trash bin was overflowing. I thought maybe we were supposed to empty the trash for the workers.
There's no lobby. You check in at the bar downstairs.
It's an old building but it's clean. The housekeeping is good.
They stolen my booking that l made 9 months ago. Luckily l rang and spoke to Marie and she fixed it up. Stayed 2 nights over new year eve. Room basic but very clean. Plenty of breakfast supplies. Greattach location to Sydney. Would love to see New carpet. And would stay again as the cost is reasonable.
GREAT MEALS, CHEAP AND LARGE. NORMAL & BOUTIQUE BEERS! BIG BEER GARDEN, COZY INSIDE. (SOLD OUT OF THE LAMB SHANKS THOUGH!!)
We spent one night here. It is very simple, which some people might have a problem with, but not me. Staff was very friendly. Room could have been a bit more clean. All in all we got what we payed for so we are happy.
2 night stay, cut short. Refund obtained. Hotel accommodation is rustic. Great for adventurer, or thrifty traveller. If you want above basic, then look elsewhere. Food at hotel was fantastic. Shower water was hot. Take earplugs if you are noise averse. I enjoyed it. I was wary based on other's comments, but I was thrilled, totally happy, couldn't have asked for better for the price paid. Staff were lovely, friendly, helpful. The same price would have got a patch of dirt in a camp ground - I prefer the bed. :)
Low rates but the rooms are very basic, just the bed and chest of draws. Toilets and showers are again very basic and shared. The location is great just behind the Railway Station and within a 3 minute walk to main st shoping (plenty of cafe's and boutique restaurants). A slightly longer walk, say 5 minutes takes you to an attractive waterfront reserve and Kiama's famous blowhole.
Awesome dinner b4 Origin 3 tonight!! Drinks & atmosphere is lit!!
I found the studio room fine. Not up to big city hotels. but fine for country pubs. Big kitchen and clean bathroom. Bed ok
Great character about the place. Average bathroom facilities. Kitchenette provided.
Fantastic music, but one of the bar tenders is very rude, all others are lovely... Just one dark haired girl doesn't know how to prioritise customers, spent most of her time on her phone.
V v poor just visited yesterday
There were so many mosquitoes in the room. The rooms were horrible. V poor room service. I went in summers not even a table fan or ceiling fan . Never n ever to be visited or booked seriously 😡And the bathroom were so untidy not ever toilet papers
Usually good music, Wednesday night is BOMB
Has been my second home in the past. The filthyest and best place to get munted on a uni night. I love it ❤️❤️❤️
Uni night or not. Great on Wednesdays
Great music and cheap drinks
Nice pub. Not very fancy but who needs that to drink a few beers.
This is the only place with decent music wollongong on a saturday night! Highly recommend this place if you like to party!
Literally worse then fever, and that's saying something. Always smells of vomit and feces even in the outdoor area. I've been coming for several years because it the only place open and I hate myself every time. Would give it a 0 but can't
Friendly staff. Nice food. Quiet when we visited at lunchtime.
Excellent food and drinks at a great price. Service is fantastic and friendly
Friends & us went for lunch.sunday.my husband finished eating. & felt voiletly sick straight away.my girlfriend seen them cutting stuff up with no gloves.then thay put gloves on to proceed
Lovely lunch with friends at the Grand hotel, Wyong today. Had golden rolled prawns and an Italian risotto dishes which were great. The garlic bread was also top shelf. Icey cold beer and soft drinks went down well. Lovely ambience and staff there. Give it a go.
My room reminded me Cave hotel in Cappadocia, no windows. It was nice that my stay was upgraded from queen to king size room.
The staff are all friendly and give you the best service and help.
Such a strong smell of smoke through the place. The door between the smoking and non smoking sections was kept open, not very pleasant.
Lovely service, great food and ambience. My only criticisms would be of the wobbly tables, we thought the table was going to overturn. And no salt and pepper shakers, only paper sachets. Address those couple of issues and I'll give you 5 stars.
Grumpy old lady serving you is rude. No explanation how hell to order.
food is ok, people are from wyong
Rooms had been nicely renovated, comfortable and spacious. Free wifi. Restaurant in the hotel was good, good menu assortment. Close to fire station so call out may occur. Close to other amenities.
The meals were great and service was wonderful. Much better than it has been in years past.
The beddings are not clean. Yellowish stains all over the sheets and pillow cases with strange smell from the pillow. The quilt is polyester, not breathable materials, sweaty. Mosquitos everywhere in the room. Extremely uncomfortable and it was restless night for me. Woke up early, found a man sleeping in a sofa in a hall way right next to my room, very disturbing and unpleasant.
Good location. Not to busy. Friendly helpful staff that made great suggestions. Great downstairs function area.
Have stayed in the rooms very clean and comfortable. .today I'm here for the supercars.. great place to have a drink lunch and relax. Be sure to come here.. either Sunday for supercars or next year..great friendly novo atmosphere.
A nice old pub, set in West end of Newcastle. Rooms are big and beds are very comfy. Typical older style accom, so don't expect 5star there. Rooms are clean and tidy, and staff helpful. Walking distance to water and coffee shops, too. I'd definitely stay again. (advertise free parking, but that's on the street, but that's ok)
Nice pub. Not too busy. They have a room downstairs called the 'basement' which has events and you can hire. Nothing fancy but does the job. It's across the road from the cop shop. Not sure if that's a good or bad thing for you.
Restaurant was inviting and the food was delicious. Reasonable price.
The bed was clean and it had a private bathroom. This is as about as complementary I can be. The staff were disorganised, the building is in dire need of a lot of maintenance and wasn't very clean at all.
Sometimes it's great! They have a little jazz scene going on here on Tuesdays which is cool.
We were very happy with this heritage, albeit basic, hotel room for the night. Would stay again.
Tuesday night jazz at The Underground is amazing. Well done Grand Hotel for helping to support Newcastle's live music scene!
Great food and so affordable!
Nice meals only stoped in for lunch .friendly staff allways smilling.
The accomodation was to the standard that i booked however room 5 let in a fair amount of light from the street and there were a number of fitting and fixtures in the bathroom that were broken or missing. The bed was comfortable but squeaked when i moved on it however the space and balcony were excellent.
