My family and I were looking forward to staying at Raffety's Resort, Lake Macquarie but unfortunately we were not happy at all with the 5 nights and 6 day stay. The website's photos did justice to the lofts and cottages, as the loft we stayed in was so much smaller and far less attractive in real life. When we checked in at reception, the lady was quite rude and our first impression was not a pleasant experience. When we arrived at our loft, we noticed that the large rubbish bins were placed directly in the entry way and smelt disgusting. We didn't understand why the bins were placed right next to the outdoor table and chair setting and directly under the clothes line. There was an ugly odour inside aswell and we had to buy air freshener in an attempt to make the smell bareable. The whole decor of the Loft was quite old. The couches, which are built into the wall, were uncomfortable to sit on and they had an old smell about them, much like the pillows. The TV was placed in an unusual and impractical spot which made viewing uncomfortable. The beds were so uncomfortable to sleep on. Myself, husband and two children aged 21 and 19 had uncomfortable sleeps. The bathrooms were very old and designed poorly. There were even cockroaches inside our loft. On one of the days a gardner was at the front court yard using a loud blower-vac at 9am in the morning. We didn't have house keeping come to change sheets or clean the loft as we had to stay for more than 7 nights to get that service, which I found very disgusting. I even went to reception to ask for three extra towels, but was told to pay $2 per towel, which I found appalling since we were spending so much already on our accommodation. The pools were not kept clean at all. And if I knew that the resort had housing for permanent residences as well, I would not have booked our holiday here. We regretted our stay immensely and would never come back or recommend this resort to anyone. The only pleasant experience was dinner at the Tapas restaurant 'Freddie's Tapas'. The food and service was fantastic.
