The Karate Institute - International Description
Choosing the right Martial Art can get confusing. Irrespective of which Martial Art you as a potential student may wish to learn, whether Karate, Taekwondo, Kung Fu or some of the lessor known fighting systems; your decision needs to be based on the quality of the teaching staff, the facility and the curriculum content.
The Australian Institute of Karate offers students the highest quality of teaching staff. The Institute's Principal, Renshi Mike Noonan has a 6th Degree Black Belt and holds the “Master Teacher” title (Renshi). Our Tournament Coach, Sensei Shane Ker is a 3rd Degree Black Belt.
The Institute offers first class full time facilities with much thought having gone into the design and fit-out. This includes a pristine timber floor in addition to a matted area, traditional weight training facility and bag-work areas, all in a well lit, safe environment.
The Institute offers a 12 Step Black Belt program that when followed guarantees that each student will achieve a Black Belt along with the level of personal excellence that is often associated with the rank.
Children particularly benefit from Institute's Kids Karate classes. Our 12 step Black Belt program teaches children the values of perseverance and commitment, enabling them to recognise that they can achieve their goals when they are broken down into smaller pieces.
The Australian Institute of Karate is located in Sydney’s St George region in Peakhurst within walking distance to Mortdale station. It provides Martial Arts training to students from all over Sydney in particular students from surrounding suburbs of Peakhurst, Mortdale, Oatley, Penshurst, Lugarno, Riverwood, Beverly Hills, Hurstville, Blakehurst, Connells Point, Roselands, Allawah, Carlton and Padstow.

Congratulations Cam and Kelvin on your grading success.
800 lessons in class, plus personal training multiple times a week, plus several training trips to Japan and finally a 1st Kyu brown belt for Ray Ng. Congratulations Ray, your commitment is exemplary. Senpai Ray is one of our Support Instructors and also leads the Thursday night Kobudo (Weapons) Class. Congratulations also to Jackie Cox on her orange belt - white stripe.
Congratulations Jamie, Jasper and Ethan on your grading.
Congratulations Julia on your success at the QLD State Titles coming first in Kumite. Thank you to Martin Phillips Sensei, Sandra Phillips Sensei, and the Sunshine Coast Karate Team for the hospitality. I know Julia and Pawel Domoradzki had a great time.
A year ago today in Kumamoto was the opening day of the Soke Cup. Fond memories of the tournament after months and months of hard work, blood, sweat and a few tears training to get the squad to this point. A very proud moment indeed. Here’s to the Soke Cup squad of 2019! Who’s in for Canada?
I’m trying to get to the Dojo today for 2-3 hours from about 12:45pm for strictly personal training (although I occasionally answer a few questions). However if anyone wants to use the facility for their own personal training, they are most welcome.
Good luck to everyone grading today
Julia and her father Pawel (who has recently joined our Adults Class) are off to represent us in the Sunshine Coast Tournament, hosted by Sunshine Coast Karate. Please wish them well. I’m sure our fellow Chito Ryu practitioners in QLD will make them feel very welcome.
Week 4 of Thursday’s kubudo class. Learning the basics.
Congratulations to Riley, Imogen and Isaac. Train hard and enjoy the journey.
From a Martial Arts' perspective, we live in crazy times and I think the great Karate pragmatist Choki Motobu statement is more pertinent now than ever. We (at least here in Sydney Australia) have been flooded with a plethora of fake styles and phoney masters. I am amazed at the audacity of some of the grades these people bestow on themselves and each other. Unfortunately for some students, it is the blind leading the blind. A young man training for a number of years under on...e of these fraudsters visited my Dojo, his black belt was imminent. He and his father watched two lessons, upon which he made the decision to stop training and not even attempt his black belt. "Why?" I hear you ask. His response was, along the lines of, ‘It has all been a waste of time, I have been sold a lie.’ There is no substitute for the real-deal, make sure you learn an authentic Karate style from a reputable teacher. Be warned, the size and popularity of a dojo is no indication of its authenticity. Contact us if you would like to know what type of questions you should be asking.

Email From: Fergal Lalor Subject: Recommendation I would just like to make a recommendation to all that are considering taking up Karate for the first time. I recently attended a fantastic Karate Clinic in Scotland where Sensei Noonan was teaching. As by far and away the most junior student there it was a privilege to have attended and gained such an insight into the true power and skill of Chito Ryu Karate. My initial worries around my abilities were very soon put at ease by... Sensei Noonan. I would strongly recommend all both young and old to try out a class as I know I've gained so much in such a short space of time from Sensei Noonan.
The humbleness, skill, power, knowledge, experience, respect and most of all patience that Sensei Noonan showed to all that were there was extraordinary. I have taken so much from the clinic which was only just one weekend!!
Outside the Dojo Sensei Noonan was a true gentleman and to show such humbleness and patience with the skill and knowledge that he has was fantastic. Sensei Noonan gave me huge encourage as a very junior Karate student and I couldn't recommend him as a Sensei highly enough. Many Thanks Sensei Noonan and hopefully you will come back to Ireland, Scotland or Norway in the near future!!
