The Lakes Mail

About The Lakes Mail

News, sport, views and entertainment for the Westlakes area of Lake Macquarie, and the northern part of the NSW Central Coast.

The Lakes Mail Description

The Lakes Mail newspaper, established in October 1996, has undergone a modern makeover in recent years. These changes have provided readers and advertisers with a fresh layout, increased sections, and more classified advertisement pages.

The newspaper is published every Thursday, and is distributed from the northern suburbs of the Central Coast, around the western shores of Lake Macquarie, and up to Speers Point at the northern edge of the lake. On the Central Coast, you'll find the Lakes Mail in suburbs including Lake Munmorah, Charmhaven, Gorokan, Lake Haven and Budgewoi.

The paper is home delivered to many areas, and bulk dropped in others. So if the Lakes Mail is not home delivered in your street, you can easily pick up a free copy from your local licensed club, supermarket, general store or newsagent.

The Lakes Mail's heartland remains the Westlakes area. That is, towns including Wyee, Morisset, Dora Creek, Cooranbong, Blackalls Park, Toronto, Rathmines and Wangi Wangi.

The Lakes Mail has always had a strong community focus and, as always, its locally based editorial covers a diverse range of news and community stories. But it also covers special feature topics, and reflects a deep interest in the people and the issues that affect readers.

There is an entertainment guide, a detailed local services directory, and pages of classified advertisements. And the coverage of local sports, with action photography, is impressive.

A strong, long-established and loyal readership base enables advertisers to obtain maximum impact for their advertising dollar. As part of Fairfax's Australian Community Media (ACM), the Lakes Mail can also offer advertisers a unique opportunity to take advantage of great package deals involving other newspapers in the ACM group, aw well as website and digital reach.

The Lakes Mail's parent paper is The Newcastle Herald.

The Lakes Mail's distribution area is growing rapidly in both the commercial and residential sectors. Toronto and Morisset, in particular, are enjoying strong development, with much more to come, which will provide the Lakes Mail with great opportunities to grow and further enhance the valued service it provides for readers and advertisers.

One of the most significant changes the Lakes Mail has undergone is the 'News Now' editorial system in which stories are published online first, as they happen, and also shared on platforms such as Facebook. This 'digital first' approach to news reporting means the Lakes Mail in now adding features for readers such as photo galleries and video footage to its online news coverage.
