About The Leela Centre

The Leela Centre, at 113 Oxford Street, Darlinghurst (corner of Crown Street), is the home of Leela Community, which is a non-religious, non-political, non-exclusive association of people who are drawn together to share their creativity. The association is a collaborative and mutually-supportive community who desire to share a physical space with one another and with the greater community as well.
Leela serves many creative purposes. It is a creative hub for all-comers to experiment, to collaborate and to celebrate creativity.
THE ASSOCIATION MEMBERS:
Leela goes way beyond an artists’ collective. We welcome creative people from all areas including, but not limited to, artists, writers, musicians, filmmakers, photographers, landscape artists, food artists, designers (of any kind), poets, students, sculptors, choreographers, embroiderers, performers (of any kind), etc, etc.
We also encourage small creative-related businesses to join us. However, these disciplines need not necessarily be the individual’s primary occupation, nor need they be professional in any way. Leela welcomes people whether they’re a professional…. . or just want to play. It is simply about celebrating your creativity.
We encourage as much diversity as possible. Not only in terms of creative discipline, but also in gender, age, cultural background, and ability.
In addition to work spaces, numerous events will be happening There will be music performances; dance performances; open-mic nights; comedy nights; talks; poetry slams; magic nights; film screenings (and discussions); jam sessions; yoga; kirtan; meditations; fitness classes; womens’ and mens’ groups; workshops and classes of every colour and hue; people sharing their interests and expertise; meetings and gatherings. And much, much more.
