Featured Recipe || Chilli Chicken is a quick and easy stir-fry that highlights simple but concentrated flavours. Garlic, soy and shallots give it a classically Asian flavour, while The Malaya Chilli Sambal gives it that extra little spicy kick.

Introducing the delightful Gilbert Pinot Grigio 2015 || Fresh, mineral and long, it shows citrus mainly, but also hints of nashi, melon, and stone fruit. Gilbert is a natural allrounder for our menu, especially among our entrees and seafood dishes. The perfect summer white πŸ™πŸ½

Food was amazing as usual but the set menu had such little food. One plate to share between 6 people is pathetic. Haven’t experienced this before. Disappointing when you have to prepay for a large group and pay a group surcharge.

User

Have been here several times, food and service is terrific and great wine selection. This also has nice views and great for couples and groups

3 months ago I wrote a negative review - after being regulars at the Malaya since the 70's we felt that food standards had slipped.HOWEVER, after lunching there again on Monday I'm very happy to say we had a great meal. Tried Salt & Pepper Squid for a change - best we've ever had! And the Prawn Sambol, which was one of the dishes I felt had declined last time (no heat), was fantastic. Hot as hell and tasted great. Very happy we were. I would have given 5 stars if there had been 12 prawns (there were 11 - but who cares really?).

User

Delicious food and great views. Booking is recommended. A little pricey due to the location.

Had the banquet at Malaya which was great value. Every dish was absolutely spot on. Their Szechuan eggplant with cashews, shallots and chillies is absolutely brilliant. They also have a great wine list. The waterfront views and ambience top off a memorable dining experience.

User

Fresh, vibrant, rightly spiced! Could it have done with some more heat.?... according to my palate yes, but that's a personal preference!
Every dish came out smelling fresh, tasting different, making you want more. This was a smorgasbord of regional South East Asian cuisine...possibly Malaysian/Indonesian.
The service kept pace with the quality of the dishes. Our hostess was courteous, prompt, attentive without being intrusive and knowledgeable.
Will certainly be back again!

I've been tithe Malaya quite a few times in the last few years and I've never been disappointed. Food is consistently good and a great location.

User

Very good Malaysian and Thai cuisine. The set menus have good options for lunch. Good selection of liquor and drinks. Ideal for afternoon lunch. Not very busy and you can also pre book.

User

loved the attention of the wait staff.
the courses were good too.

this place is excellent for parties.

User

Well I usually love spicy meals when chilly don't overpower entire taste or the dish. It's says in the menu medium hot and I know people's taste palette might be different but I did not feel any other taste than chilly:/
Wait stuff was doing a good job, quick and friendly. Atmosphere of the place is missing little not of something. It seemed bland not so much welcoming.
Malasian cuisine is my fav but you still have to be able to taste flavour if coconut and lemongrass and all other ingredients... this was pretty much all chilly :/

User

Wow! What an amazing meal. Never knew about Malaya and now I'm here eating this wonderful food I wish I had known about it earlier. Each dish never missed a beat, just one after another was utter perfection. And great staff and service, all incredibly friendly and responsive and the whole meal was a pleasure. Will be returning as soon as I can. Do yourself a favour and get down here.

User

Incredible food. Service was great and seamless. Highly recommended

The Malaya at King Street Wharf blends an innovative approach to Southeast Asian cuisine with flavours rooted in traditional favourites. Set in a harbourside backdrop with elegance and sophistication.

Tip: If there's one dish you must try at The Malaya it has to be the Szechuan Eggplant.... Simply outstanding!

The 2017 Sydney Festival is currently on and with so much to do and eat, you need to make sure to plan our January to fit them all in! This year the event organisers have brought something special to Sydney, the "Beach at the Cutaway" which we can't wait to visit this coming weekend. Think of a large plastic ball pit with over a million balls simulating a pool or a beach feel. With a festival so big and exciting, you bet there's going to be special menu's designed for the event.

Everyone we know has heard of The Malaya down in King Street. It's a beautiful southeast asian restaurant with waterfront views. You can see cruises docking or leaving the wharf on a long afternoon or watch the sunset in the evening... and with the privilege of daylight savings (sucks to be WA) we can't think of a better way to enjoy a warm summer's night. Add a little spice to the mix with the rich and aromatic curries from The Malaya to really make it a night worth remembering.

We were invited by Zomato to sample The Malaya's Sydney Festival menu. I've been telling my colleagues and they have made reservations. The menu is great for value at $55 per person, it's the perfect excuse for a date night.

Real shame I was sick last week in Sydney – the heatwave knocked me for six and I went home sick on the day of this visit to The Malaya. I love Malaysian Food, love what Sydney Festival is doing with their Festival Feasts and love Darling Harbour. This venue is win win for me. Luckily and conveniently my back-up writer for Spooning, Arvin, was available at short notice and it worked out really well for everyone. Arvin is Malaysian and his family live in Malaysia – he knows his Malaysian food. If Arvin says The Malaya's food is awesome, trust me, it is AWESOME.

"The Malaya really know their Malaysian food! An amazing venue with amazing food and staff. I really would recommend bringing a group of friends and give their Sydney Festival special a shot. I do wish they would add dessert to the Festival Feasts specials though."

Full review is now up at Spooning Australia.
