DA reports on funds for PCYC

User

Photos coming but today the fabulous cast, crew, band and directors, not to mention the compere of the Rural Command Performance handed over $30,500 they raised for PCYC for the youth projects they believe will assist many young people in Wagga. Thank you to all of the people involved in the staging of this event and to the cast for their time, talent and willingness to invest in Wagga's future. They demonstrated an overwhelming enthusiasm to take part and a humble intention... to give back to the city which will always be a special 'part' of them. Thank you too to our sponsors Thomas Bros group, Sureway Employment, Riverina Cardiology, Borambola Wines, Yenda Beer, Active Print, Julia Roberts from Jube Designs and Liz Cox from the Wagga City Council. Our big thank you as well to the Wagga public who gave their support to the fabulous showcase in near sell out performances, for a tremendous cause.

Congratulations to Catherine Alcorn on her amazing Bette Midler medley this morning on Studio Ten, leading up to her appearance as The Divine Miss Bette at the Sydney Opera House. How lucky were Wagga audiences to see her in person at the recent gala concert where she performed free of charge for PCYC! The good news is that all the expenses have now been paid and there will be a formal handover of a cheque to PCYC for their proven youth projects later this week. Thank you again to the generous performers, the marvellous directors and band and to you the public for supporting this exciting event! Watch this space.......

True to its word when you come along to the 'Rural Command Performance', you will be amazed at the variety of entertainment it delivers and truly immersed in all things Wagga Wagga. We are excited therefore, to also showcase some outstanding photographers who will use their talents to create original, locally inspired signature backdrops for this 'spectacular'. The first of these artists is Joel Markham, who currently teaches Digital Imaging and Photography at CSU. His excit...ing works are driven by a need for creative exploration and expression. These images will be complemented by those of Georgia Taylor, whose Riverina based photography business, GET, has a reputation for its natural, simple and fresh style. As an exciting bonus we have also secured the services of Ainsley and Damian Jenkins, an award winning film making, sister and brother team, operating 'Next in Line Films', a Wagga video production company. There will be no images in this profile in case the impact of what you will see in person is in any way undermined. Come and see for yourselves on Saturday, 28th July.

And now the confirmation you have all been waiting for! Yes! The main man, the Master of Ceremonies, for 'The Rural Command Performance' at both matinee and evening shows, is award winning musician, writer and performer; the incredibly talented PeterJ Casey! Peter has worked professionally in musical theatre and cabaret for thirty years. He was the winner of the Sydney Cabaret Convention and wrote and performed several one-man cabaret shows, the last of which earned a Green R...oom Award nomination for 'Best Original Song'. He may be persuaded to demonstrate some of these song writing skills on the day if we are nice to him! There is no end to his talents, having co-written lyrics and music for several musical theatre productions, including 'The Devil Builds a Chapel', which was short listed for London's Flourish new opera writing competition. He laments he hasn't won any prizes as yet in his position at the Wagga City Library, but there is no doubt his appearance on July 28th will be a winner!

Second from left: Meredith Adams, Cathy, Heather and David Wall, on keyboard, (musical director), practise some harmonies at Alison Music, where rehearsals for 'The Rural Command Performance' are held. Jenny Conkey vicariously laps up the kudos of being pictured with such talent! Don't miss the Mayoress' 'Rural Command Performance' on the 28th July!

Managing in excess of 30 performers who make up the cast of 'The Rural Command Performance' will be an extremely complicated process. Getting the artists to the right place at the right time and being responsible for theatre space, time and movement, calls for someone with experience in the area Luckily for us, we have secured the services of Lauren Reynolds, a graduate from Charles Sturt University, who has been working professionally as a stage manager for the last six years. Lauren has managed 'Oliver', 'Away', Wicked' and many more. We thank her once again for donating her time and expertise to Stage manage this showcase.

So what turns a plain concert into a spectacular variety performance? ......Having quality dance routines, and a dance troupe skilled enough to deliver the pizazz, colour, movement and excitement of a blockbuster, all the while complementing the appropriate atmosphere required to maximise the theatrical impact of each item. Luckily for 'The Rural Command Performance' that 'wow' factor is present in abundance, in the form of award winning choreographer Kathryn Fisher and her... dancers. Kathryn is a dance coordinator at Wagga Wagga High School, teaching elective dance as well as its Senior Dance Ensemble. She has been involved in many local productions both as a performer and choreographer. Some of these very successful shows include 'My Fair Lady', 'Wicked' and 'The Boy From Oz', for which she won best choreographer in the Canberra Area Theatre Awards. We are particularly delighted to have a team of talented and dedicated dancers who have volunteered their time and skills for this cause. Introducing the Kathryn Fisher Dancers,.....Melissa Brown, Melissa Donges, Sarah Foley, Laura Hogan, Hilary Measday, Sarah Navin and Alicia Rynehart.
