This afternoon members of the NCIE farewelled Carly Phillips, one of our longest serving staff members on our Fitness Team.
A Bundjalung and Gumbaynggirr woman, Carly’s been holding the line in the early mornings at the Fitness Centre for more than six years and is well known and loved by staff, community and members alike. As a member of the Rugby League Community Carly played for the First Nations Gems at the 2018 Festival of Indigenous Rugby League and currently plays for the Redfern All Blacks helping them win the 2017 NSWRL Women's Premiership Grand Final.
We're going to miss Carly's good nature, professionalism and humour a great deal. #thencie #indigenousexcellence

Today we farewelled Lanisha Gounden, Manager in the After School and School Holiday programs.
At her farewell, General Manager Programs & Partnerships, Delilah MacGillivray acknowledged the mighty work Lanisha’s done here with our children and our parents, and CEO Clare McHugh recalled the joy with which the children would run and jump into Lanisha’s arms.
We’ll miss you Lanisha and wish you well in the next leg of your journey!

In case you missed it: Excerpt from the NAIDOC Week National Press Club of Australia address. In Conversation with Mikaela Jade, Mayor Vonda Malone, Andrea Mason and Brooke Boney.
"I can, do and should do my work in technology futures and you should join me, because in a way our cultural futures depend on it. You see, we all know about the gap in education and health but you might not think about the chasm we are about to be in - the digital skills chasm. This is why technology futures for our tiddas is critical" #IndigenousExcellence @IndigenousDX

NCIE is proud to host the "Breaking Silent Codes across Australia and the Pacific" meeting today. Up to 60 women from Solomon Islands, Tonga, Fiji, Papua New Guinea and Samoa joined Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and Maori women in discussions about responses to sexual assault domestic violence in our communities and creating a pathway for women to take a lead in this conversation about us.
The goal of the forum is to share stories of silence, broken spirits, resilience and healing, and to try and build networks to raise awareness, to educate and to change the cycle of violence and sexual abuse
Dixie Link-Gordon and Kowana Welsh are part of the organising group. #strongwomen #becauseofherwecan #IndigenousExcellence Women's Legal Service NSW UNSW

We were proud to welcome thousands of people to The National Centre of Indigenous Excellence for the 2018 Inner City NAIDOC Culture & Sports Day on Friday 13 July, a huge day of community activities and performances designed to celebrate the very best of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures.
Some of the highlights on the day included the opening of Aunty Barbara McGrady's exhibition 'Deadly Women of Redfern' and the Gawaru Womens Healing Ceremony.
Thanks to everyone... that made the 2018 Inner City NAIDOC Culture & Sports day such a wonderful success, especially to the otherperformers on the day including dancers Kris An Taran and the Buuja Buuja Dance Company, Marlene Cummins, Angeline Penrith, Aimee Hannan, Sonboy Carr & Majik Honey.
