Had a beautiful morning with @thefoodfarmau checking out the happiest chickens in the world! At 200 chickens per hectare (some free range farms use a 10,000 chickens per hectare ratio), these girls luxuriate in their beautiful pastured home, hanging out with best friend Willow the Maremma sheepdog. It’s fabulous to see a local small business making the most of unused, otherwise unproductive or neglected land through the Yarramalong Valley. We’ll be back! (With kid in tow).

Central Coast Council have organised a screening of this wonderful, thought provoking film - a film about the effect of our disposable society on wildlife. We have also learned that the producer of the film has provided it FREE to screen, as he just wants the message to get out there. It’s not just the film’s message that’s inspiring, it’s the actions of people like these who want to help raise awareness about the plastic situation choking our world. We’re inspired.

Do you have an idea for community action, or want to do something more substantial about the waste crisis we are facing? ABC’s War on Waste website has an excellent toolkit “Good for the Hood”, with all the information you need to get your ideas and actions happening. What we absolutely love is how they walk the talk: they ask that if you need to print any of the templates in the kit, let them know and they’ll plant a tree for the paper you use! Love it. Read and be inspired. http://www.abc.net.au/…/d…/war-on-was te-toolkit-pdf-data.pdf

ACTIVATED NUTS ANYONE?
Heard about activated nuts and seeds and don't really know what it all means?
Simply put - activated nuts and seeds have been soaked in salted water for a predetermined period of time, drained and then dehydrated at a very low temperature.
... Why activate? Soaking nuts and seeds begins the process of germination thus breaking down the phytic acid and enzyme inhibitors making its nutrients more readily available.
How do you activate? Place the nuts or seeds in a bowl with the salt and cover with filtered water. Place on a bench uncovered for the recommended period of time.
Rinse and drain, and dehydrate for the recommended period of time. If using an oven, it must be on the lowest temperature possible - as you don't want to cook them, you simply want to dry them out.
Walnuts, Pecans, Peanuts, Pine nuts, Hazelnuts: Soak: Salted water (1-2 teaspoons), overnight (approx 8 hours) Dehydrate: 12-24 hours or until dry and crunchy
Almonds: Soak: Salted water, overnight. Dehydrate: 12-24 hours.
Cashews: Soak: Salted water, 3-6 hours. Dehydrate: 12-15 hours.
Pumpkin Seeds and Sunflower Seeds: Soak: Salted water, overnight. Dehydrate: 12 -24 hours
OR .... you can buy them already activated 🤣🤣🤣

We are proud to support Aussie farmers. Our Australian Raw Pumpkin Seeds are grown by a family in the Victorian high country who are the only Australian farmers of real seed pumpkins.
They are grown without the husk on the seed, so that all the goodness goes into the seed and are higher in protein that imported seeds.
Just 20 grams of these pumpkin seeds per day can meet your magnesium requirements, a good dose of zinc, potassium and selenium and protein.
... We also stock these nutritional beauties coated with a smooth dark chocolate that is vegan friendly and dairy free! 😋
You can buy as much as you need - or as little as you can resist 😉

Have you tried our Cacao Buckinis? They are an absolutely scrumptious combination of buckwheat kernels combined with raw cacao, coconut and juicy sweet cranberries and white mulberries.
Did you know that buckwheat is not a variety of wheat – or even a grain? Buckwheat is a fruit seed botanically related to sorrel and rhubarb. The raw buckwheat kernels in these Cacao Buckinis has been activated – soaked, washed and rinsed in filtered water; then dehydrated at low temperatures (under 40 degrees Celsius).
Cacao Buckinis make a delicious hot or cold breakfast, a quick and convenient natural snack or a wonderful ingredient in raw food, dessert and baking recipes.

It's a staggering figure, but about one-third of all food produced for human consumption around the world goes to waste. Australians are even more wasteful. 😥
Shopping at The Source is an easy change you can make to help reduce food-waste, by only buying as much or as little as you need 😁

User

Here's a delicious raw dessert for a special treat 😍

Here is a family in Tassie doing an awesome job living waste-free. Simple things - like shopping at bulk food stores 😉, using beeswax wraps instead of cling wrap, reusing jars/containers, buying package free produce and goods, talking to their butcher/grocer/baker to support them in buying their goods package free.
We are here to support you in making those changes. Soooo inspiring 😍

great store and good to see one opening up here on the "back in time" central coast but people need to be wary of price differences for certain things especially when your on a budget e.g. TSBF non organic dried beans were 5-6 dollars dearer then harris farms non organic dried beans but TSBF are plastic free but harris farms were not so what do huh... so it makes wonder why i am paying a extra 5-6 dollars... either way it's a positive shop to be here regardless of price difference. :)
