About Transport Workers' Union Of Nsw

We are the men and women who keep New South Wales moving. Authorised Richard Olsen, Transport Workers' Union of NSW State Secretary, Sydney.

Transport Workers' Union Of Nsw Description

We are the men and women who keep New South Wales moving.

From humble beginnings on July 24th 1888 as the Sydney Trolley and Draymen’s Union, we have grown to more than 30, 000 members working everyday in trucking, public transport and taxis, at our airports, on the waterfronts, in the waste and cash in transit industries, in distributions centres and associated workplaces.

From distribution centres to behind the wheel, both employees and owner-driver members understand the power of standing together to achieve real change at their workplace and in their communities. Our members play a vital role in the fight for a fair day’s pay for a fair day’s work for all transport and distribution industry workers.

We are 125 years young and we'll continue to stand for good jobs, safe communities and a strong transport industry

This page is part of an online community, along with our website www. twumsw.org. au, where members and supporters of our union can interact. It is open to anyone who wants to become a part of our online community, both TWU NSW members and supporters.

Don’t forget, today is a FARE-FREE DAY on some bus journeys in Western Sydney and the Central Coast as TWU bus driver members at five Busways depots resume industrial action to hit Busways where it hurts - their pockets.
Members will also hold a stop work meeting from 12pm-1pm, so we encourage you to plan ahead if you need to travel at that time.
The five Busways depots are:
... Penrith Blacktown Windsor Gosford Wyong
We are so grateful to the public for your overwhelming support of our bus drivers’ fight for a fair go. We continue to do our best to minimise the effect industrial action will have on the community, but the ball is now back in Busways’ court.

BREAKING: Further industrial action will be taken by TWU NSW bus driver members at five Busways depots – Penrith, Blacktown, Windsor, Gosford and Wyong – this Friday, 7 September.
This will again include a ban on the use of Opal card readers, meaning commuters will again experience a fare-free day on some journeys.
A one-hour stoppage of work will also occur, commencing at 12 noon. At that time, members will discuss the possibility of taking further action next week.
... We hope that it won’t have to come to that. The ball is once again in Busways’ court.
TWU NSW members have been trying to negotiate a fair deal with Busways since 2017, but Busways management has repeatedly rejected the majority of our log of claims. Until Busways is prepared to discuss a fair and respectful deal, members have no other option than to continue lawful industrial action.

Commuters will experience free travel on some Sydney and Central Coast bus journeys beginning Monday 3 September, when TWU NSW bus driver members at five Busways depots take protected industrial action.
To bring attention to Busways’ refusal to negotiate a fair Enterprise Agreement (EA), TWU members at the following Busways depots will take part in the action:
- Penrith... - Blacktown - Windsor - Gosford - Wyong
The action will take the following forms:
- Unlimited ban on the use of ticket machines on related fare collection devices (Opal card readers) - Unlimited ban on wearing uniforms
TWU members have been trying to negotiate a fair deal since 2017, but Busways management has repeatedly rejected the majority of our log of claims. Until Busways is prepared to discuss a fair and respectful deal, members have no other option than to proceed with lawful industrial action.

Aviation workers deserve better. No worker in Australia should have to sign a dodgy deal just to get what was promised to them.

Remember when foodora said it was leaving Australia due to "a shift in focus towards other markets"? Funny how they forgot to mention this...

The Federal Government needs to work with us to address easing the dangerous pressure on truckies. This 12 year Monash University study into work-related injury and disease in Australian truck drivers found that a truck driver will take on average 10 weeks off due to work-related mental stress and mental illness. Bill Shorten MP recently met with TWU members at Port Botany to hear their voices on the issues that affect them most, and to discuss the Australian Labor Party's plans to address the issues facing Aussie workers. Bill spent time with ACFS forkies, warehouse workers and truck drivers, as well as labour hire workers, for a discussion about job security, penalty rates and more, including the ALP’s policy plan of same job, same pay between company workers and labour hire workers. Members said it was great to be able to chat to him like any other bloke - and to grab a photo or two as well!

Truck drivers are 13 times more likely to die at work than other Australians, and have a drastically higher risk of illness, psychological stress and other injuries. Why does Malcolm Turnbull and the Federal Government keep refusing to come to the table on driver health and safety?

The TWU convoy had a simple message: we need fairness and we need safe rates of pay to achieve a safe industry, writes TWU NSW State Secretary Richard Olsen in Big Rigs National Road Transport Newspaper.

It has been a week since we turned the soil for our new building in Minchinbury. Project Manager Daniel Swinnerton of Prime Projects lets Richard Olsen know what to expect over the next few months. From 2019 onwards The TWU will be more accessible to more members, in a far more convenient location and with much more parking.

You spoke, we listened. On Monday we broke the soil on our new building in Minchinbury, which from 2019 onwards will mean our office is more accessible to more members, in a far more convenient location and with much more parking. We can’t wait for you to visit!

BACKPAY AND INCREASES ARE ON THE WAY AT DNATA!
Dnata have confirmed that backpay and pay increases as part of the agreement will commence 14th of August 2018.
This EA was made possible by the strength of a united union working together across Australia. Thank you to the whole team for their efforts throughout the negotiation

Foodora's workers were informed at the exact same time as the media. Riders have been given only one week's notice before shifts "wind down". In only 18 days, they're out of a job altogether. foodora, showing their contempt for transport workers right to the bitter end.

User

The TWU took Foodora to the Fair Work Commission for the way they treat their workers. Now they've decided to get on their bike and ditch those workers altogether.
