Trinity musicians make some noise!
Over the weekend, our Chamber Music students took out three of four placements (first, second and highly commended), on offer at the Sydney Eisteddfod held at Knox Grammar School, competing against schools such as Fort street, Knox, Meriden, MLC, Cranbrook, and Pymble Ladies College.
First place Piano Trio was won by David Carreon (12St), Daniel Chu (11Ke) and Michael Lin (10Fo). Second place went to up and coming String Quartet musicians, J...ohn Choi (10He), Joseph Lin (8St), Asher Tarbox (9Du) and John Dedousis (8Mu). Highly Commended went to Clarinet Quintet Andrew Kim (12We), Monty Guo (12Ke), Leon Liang (12La), John Choi (10He) and Calvin Li (12Ar).
In the individual Brass and Woodwind Open competition, Andrew Kim (12We) competed against 24 other contestants to secure first place. This is an amazing achievement given Andrew put in a 12-hour day at the event!
We congratulate our talented musicians on these wonderful achievements.

Congratulations Dimitri Sidiropoulos (TGS School Captain 2012) on being the first student in the history of Trinity Grammar School to sign a professional indoor volleyball contract in Greece. Dimitri started playing volleyball eight years ago while in Year 9: “Although not the most naturally gifted athlete, Dimitri was extremely determined and very inquisitive. He asked more questions and sought more feedback than any other player I have coached in 30 years in the sport. He d...id all the suggested agility and technical work required to reach the top level in his sport,” said Andrew Simos, Trinity’s Head of PDHPE and Director of Volleyball.
Last week, Dimitri was asked by the Australian Volleyball Federation to train with the National Open Men's team at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra, where he performed very well. The National Coach made several comments about Dimitri's outstanding defensive play which is an integral part of volleyball. Dimitri is now ranked in the top 3 setters (quarterbacks) in the country for his age.
Dimitri helped cheer on Trinity at the much anticipated fixture against Sydney Grammar. The 3rds game came down to the wire with Sydney Grammar winning by one point in the third set. The 2nds also had an epic match with both teams going point for point in all four sets, with Trinity prevailing 3-1 and showing guts and determination to defeat a very good team. The 1sts fixture saw two of the best school boy volleyball teams in NSW going head to head. Some of the rallies were incredible with the ball crossing the net almost 15 times before it hit the floor - Trinity dug deep to prevail three sets to one.
We thank Dimitri for his support, and we wish him all the best with his new team in Kalamata (southern Greece). It is sure to be the start of a long and prosperous playing career in Europe.
