About Tweed Regional Gallery & Margaret Olley Art Centre

In response to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) emergency, Council’s cultural facilities are temporarily closed to the public until further notice. This includes libraries, gallery and museum facilities.

Tweed Regional Gallery & Margaret Olley Art Centre Description

The Tweed Regional Gallery & Margaret Olley Art Centre is housed in a large, modern, architecturally award-winning building with views to Wollumbin /Mount Warning. The Gallery was relocated to this site in 2004 and extended in 2006. The Margaret Olley Art Centre opened as a purpose-built extension in 2014.

The Gallery’s seven exhibition spaces present a dynamic program of historical to contemporary touring exhibitions, alongside exhibitions showcasing the work of regional, national and international artists presented exclusively at the Tweed Regional Gallery. The program includes the $20, 000 Olive Cotton Award for photographic portraiture. An extensive collection of portraits representing Australia’s diverse community is a highlight of the Gallery’s permanent collection. Visitors can participate in a range of complementary public programs and workshops catering for all ages and abilities. The Gallery also includes a workshop and education space, research library, the Gallery Shop and the Gallery Café (www. tweedgallerycafe.com. au) with indoor and outdoor seating.

The Margaret Olley Art Centre (MOAC) celebrates the career, life and legacy of Margaret Olley, Australia’s most celebrated painter of still life and interiors. MOAC combines exhibitions, interactives and the permanent re-creation of areas of Olley’s famous home studio. MOAC is complemented by the Nancy Fairfax Artist in Residence Studio, a space dedicated to the continuation of Olley’s commitment to supporting artists and fostering creativity.

The Tweed Regional Gallery and Margaret Olley Art Centre is a Tweed Shire Council Community facility, supported by Create NSW, the Friends of Tweed Regional Gallery and Margaret Olley Art Centre Inc. , the Tweed Regional Gallery Foundation Ltd. , and private donations.

Looking ahead for School Holidays Ideas? Here’s a great opportunity for students in years 9-12 to work with artist Laith McGregor.
The line as a symbolic gesture dates back to our primitive origins and is used to map, guide, express and converse. It is central to drawing and will be the focus of this workshop. Students will make some quick facial studies before drawing a self-portrait in detail, creating a finished artwork. This will then be deconstructed through erasure, gra...ffiti and drawing over. Book into ART MAKER: Deconstructed Self Portrait with Laith McGregor on Sunday 7 October from 10.30am-2.30pm DST. www.trybooking.com/UZCM Cost is $50 or $45 for additional bookings.
Laith is also offering a similar workshop for adults on Sunday 21 October. Details at www.trybooking.com/XVLY image: Laith McGregor 'OHNE TITEL'

2018 marks Tweed Regional Gallery's 30th anniversary. To celebrate the Gallery's milestone year, the Tweed Regional Gallery Foundation has launched an appeal to help acquire Cressida Campbell's 'Hallway with kilims' 2017-18. Valued at $110,000, this work is the most ambitious acquisition in the Gallery's history. Your gift, big or small, will be appreciated. Donations of $1,000 or more provide eligibility to become a member of the Foundation. Philip Bacon Galleries have very generously allowed us to exhibit the work in the upcoming exhibition 'Three Decades: celebrating the Tweed Regional Gallery collection'. DoubleMask Youth Theatre Co. invite you to join them ‘in the moment’ this Sunday at 2pm as they indulge in some theatre of the absurd, in response to Andrew Antoniou’s exhibition Curtain Call. For actors, being 'in the moment' is important. For these actors, their 'moment' will be repeated over and over and over and over and over and over again.
