We are part of Word Travels' annual extravaganza, Story-Fest!
Sat Oct 20, 2.30-4pm, we're hosting Bringing Everything.
What are the barriers to participation in your arts community? When did you feel truly comfortable in a creative space, and why? How do you work through self-censorship?
... Unspoken Words presents our workshop Bringing Everything, on participation barriers, self-censorship, and bringing everything to the table. Hosted by Unspoken Words producers: spoken word artist and percussionist Gabrielle Journey Jones and poet and performer Wil Roach, they’ll share stories speaking from their own experiences as artists, community workers and as mental health practitioners.
As poets of colour, Jones and Roach have designed this workshop to be particularly valuable for people from marginalised groups in Australia, who often do not feel safe enough to bring all of themselves to their creative community.

Book club tonight! We're reading Citizen by Claudia Rankine -- a searing poetic essay on contemporary racism and aggressions in America. You can get your copy at the bookshop and all are welcome, even if you haven't read the book yet. We're upstairs at 6.30, free entry, and pls see friendly bookshop staff or get in touch with us in advance if you'd like to use their lift facilities to get upstairs. We have snacks.
