... CAD/CAM Technician Required: 1. A minimum of 2 years of relevant design experience in a jewellery or product design. 2. Strong CAD/CAM, Adobe Illustrator or Rhino software experience required. 3. Proficiency in Illustrator
General Requirements (Knowledge, Abilities, Skills): A. Start-to-finish proficiency in all aspects of CAD-CAM Technology B. Experience with fabricating a variety of jewellery and product design from precious metals. C. A good understanding of 3-dimensional objects. D. A good eye for aesthetics and a high level of technical requirements. E. Ability to work with exacting specifications and the use of logos, images in 2D. F.Ability to work with a variety of people and have good communication skills G Detail-oriented and excellent problem solving and analytical abilities with a certain degree of troubleshooting skills
Responsibilities: The duties include, but are not limited to: complete all phases of CAD/CAM, or other suitable programmes. Scan and design all types of jewellery, coins and medallion. Use microscopic technology to ensure the highest level of margin integrity; Maintain quality control of completed designs; and other duties as assigned

PENULTIMATE Year Students: ANSTO Scholarship
The School of Materials Science and Engineering is collaborating with ANSTO to offer scholarships for students who will perform an 18 UoC final year research project in 2019. (Formally MATS4009, in T3 world called MATS4100).
Students will be expected to undertake a ~ 12-week placement at ANSTO over the summer break and then continue on the same project throughout the 2019 academic year as part of their study towards MATS4100. Stude...nts undertaking such projects will be eligible for a $6,000 scholarship from ANSTO. (nb results acquired during the industrial placement cannot be directly used to attract credit for their final submitted thesis.)
5 project in collaboration with ANSTO are on offer:
a) Effect of Cold Rolling on the Mechanical Properties and Microstructure of Alloy 690. UNSW Supervisor: Dr Sophie Primig b) Molten Salt Corrosion (FLiNaK) of Ni-Mo-Cr Alloy Welds for Molten Salt Reactor (MSR) Systems. UNSW Supervisor Dr Sophie Primig c) Assessment of the Radiation Damage of Graphite for Molten Salt Reactor (MSR) Systems. UNSW Supervisor: Prof Paul Munroe d) Prediction of Creep and Creep-Fatigue Failure of Alloy 617 using Analytical and Finite Element Models. UNSW Supervisor: A/Prof John Daniels e) Effects of W and aging heat treatment on microstructure and creep resistance of a Ti48Al2Cr2Nb alloy. UNSW Supervisor: Dr Sophie Primig

Applications are now open for the summer 2018/2019 Research Exchange at either North Carolina State University (NCSU), USA or at Tsinghua University, China.
This program is an excellent opportunity for students to gain critical research skills, develop international contacts in the materials science and engineering discipline, and to experience the global nature of scientific research.
... Generous scholarships are available to cover a substantial portion of the program cost.

Celebrating NAIDOC Week
Yesterday, 11th July, year 10-12 Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students participating in the Nura Gili Winter School visited the School of Materials Science and Engineering.
These students went on a tour around the Hilmer building, visiting laboratories and learnt about different types of research that are being conducted within the school.
... Our student ambassadors then showed them how Materials Science and Engineering is integrated into our everyday lives, especially in making instant ice cream using liquid nitrogen!
