We boarded in February 2018 in Sydney. Our journey was out to Vanuatu etc. 2 days into the journey my husband became quite unwell. $200 at the onboard doctor, who no fault of his own, could not diagnose his condition but gave antibiotics and painkillers. The next day my husband became sicker and I made the call to leave the ship at the next port which was Vila. I went to the reception to tell them of our predicament. They said I had to book the flights myself and then email them with the details. I was clearly in an upset state. Extremely concerned about my husband. The first services man Benson, kept telling me his shift was ending in 10 minutes and to hurry up with the email. After he received the email he told me to come back at 8am to organise our disembarking. Promptly at 8 I was there. He was not there. I asked for him twice and by 8.45 was told to sit down and wait. Finally he arrived at 9 with some paperwork saying we were free to leave. I packed everything and got myself and my husband with two 23kg bags (no assistance offered) to the exit to be turned back saying I had to settle the doctors bill before being allowed off. I rushed upstairs paid the bill then proceeded to take my critically ill husband and bags through the port in vila. It was torrentially raining and we were struggling. We past several crew members who ignored us and were finally offered assistance from a local police officer. On our return to Australia and straight into hospital we discovered my husbands appendix burst into his colon and he’d have been dead in 48 hours if we hadn’t gotten help when we did. I’m disgusted with Royal Caribbean we have had no response or communication from them after numerous attempts made. We aren’t elderly my husband is 52 lucky we were able to manage, just, to make it through.
