I saw a play here as part of This Is Not Art festival. Tiered seating would have made viewing easier. This is a great venue otherwise. Clean an spacious unisex bathrooms.

Watt Space invites you to the opening launch of
PERIPHERIES: Research in architecture and the Built Environment and Timothy Burke: 'Exquisite Drawing Machine'
... Opening Night Event: Friday, 7th of September 5:30pm- 7:30pm Exhibition Dates: 5 -23 September, 2018 Gallery Hours: Wednesday till Sunday 11-5pm
This exhibition explores the peripheries of creative practice research in Architecture and the Built Environment, and the way that these edges impact on cities, regions, populations, disciplines, universities, environments and futures. It will feature work across a diverse array of domains in the School of Architecture and the Built Environment at the University of Newcastle, and includes projects from postgraduate students, staff and supervisors within the school who are engaged with creative practice research. The work explores new relationships to knowledge, practice, process and method, and seeks to develop new audiences and conversations about architecture and the built environment, both now and in the future. The exhibition coincides with Exquisite Drawing Machines by Timothy Burke, which is a body of work completed as part of the examination of his PhD in Architecture.
Watt Space will also host the bi-annual Creative Practice Research Intensive (14-16th September), which will include PhD examinations, confirmations and in-progress reviews across the School of Architecture and the Built Environment at UON.

... HIGH PERFORMING STUDENTS PROGRAM Curated by Melissa Bull
The University of Newcastle supports the High Performing Students Program (HPS). The program provides an excellent opportunity for exceptional students (years 9 to 11) from local high schools to undertake first year university courses. It is an opportunity for students to accelerate their career opportunities as it can lead to credit toward university studies. The program is run in conjunction with Merewether High School ho provide facilities for the program. The aim for the 2018 HPS program in Fine Arts was to integrate Science and Art into 2D artworks. Once the foundational skills and techniques in art processes were introduced and demonstrated, the students were required to provide a self-directed proposal to investigate a chosen scientific area through visual interpretation.
KAREN BOLDEN 'The Language of Paint'
Can a painting exist beyond its basic constituents of surface and support? Is it still a painting... or does it become something else?
MAGGIE HALL 'Gateway: White mushrooms and painted Gods'
Maggie Hall is a Newcastle based artist, she has contributed photographs to four publications and regularly has her writing and images in Studio La Primitive Arts Zine. Maggie’s creations are largely derived through elemental properties, using mediums such as photography, painting, printmaking and automatic writing. Her main interest and continuing study is in the connection between art & science and establishing a link between the two. This exhibition is a mixed media illustration of the iconography and imagery that has guided the artist through her life experiences and continuing studies of religion, iconography and animal behaviour. This exhibition is a taste of the nature, justice and beliefs that have carried Maggie through into the creative and energising realm of High Art.
STUDENTS OF NATURAL HISTORY ILLUSTRATION 'Naturalist' Curated by Emma Heath
The practice of natural history illustration highlights the importance of the relationship between the arts and sciences. Prior to photography, drawings and paintings were the primary visual sources of information for scientists, botanists and anatomists alike. Considering this, artists today continue to play a vital role in the communication and documentation of the world around us. Through traditional and digital mediums, ‘Naturalist’ presents a showcase of the natural wonders that abound, and the artists that recreate them.
Congratulations to all the exhibiting artists.
