About Westfield Burwood

Westfield Burwood is a large shopping centre in Burwood, in Sydney, Australia. The centre first opened in 1966 and was completely rebuilt in 2000. EventsWestfield Burwood participates in Burwood's Christmas Carols in the Park in December. The event is held in Burwood Park, opposite Westfield. HistoryWestfield Burwood first opened in October 1966, and was one of the first shopping centres in Australia. The original centre was half the size it is today, and was first to have a Hoyts cinema inside the centre (later closed sometime in the 1980s). The original centre was partially built on the site of the old Hoyts Astor theatre which was rebuilt as the Hoyts Burwood. Farmers was the original main store becoming a subsidiary of Myer and later renamed Grace Bros. Westfield Burwood was renovated in 1972 and again in 1976. In 2000, the centre underwent a $300 million redevelopment, and was the first Westfield to be completely demolished and rebuilt. The redevelopment doubled the size of the original centre, allowed for more stores in the centre, and created Food on the Park, a food court that extends to a balcony overlooking the park. The new Westfield Burwood was opened on 17 August 2000. The Myer store closed on Saturday, 24 March 2007. A David Jones store opened on 5 May 2007 by model Megan Gale. It was the first David Jones store to open in Sydney's Inner West, i. e. between Market Street and Elizabeth Street and Parramatta. A new cosmetics department was built, the whole top floor was renovated and carpets were relaid in some sections. Store fittings in other departments remained the same.

Another Westfield, but this one has a better collection of Australian designer clothing shops. Plenty of beauty stores and salons as well. Good selection of cafes, bakeries and pastry shops.

The shopping centre is quite massive. I went in to buy bottle water in the ground floor. The price is quite good for 12 bottles of filtered water only cost $6.

Great selection of stores and fresh food. Somewhat difficult with a pram but the travel actors at either end of the store make it doable unlike some other Westfield's relying on slow elevators. 2hr free parking is a little downer compared to the usual 3. Overall a pretty good shopping centre

User

Plenty of shops, large food court, small play area for kids and it has burwood park right next to it. Train station is nearby with food options outside it too. Location is ideal.
It is kept superbly clean and is slightly crowded on weekends. Great service, it has devices on which you are able to search a shop and it will give you directions or will show you food, bathroom, parking and elevator options.

We stayed at the Comfort Inn & Suites Burwood for 2 nights & couldn't fault it in any way whatsoever. Reception staff were hospitable, the breakfast & dinner in the restaurant were delicious & it would be the cleanest motel we have stayed in.The family room was very spacious. Highly recommend.

User

Good variety and plenty of halal food shops around as well. Burwood park opposite is good for kids to spend time on slides and swings etc

User

Has a good variety of shops and the food court being recently renovated is very on trend and comfortable offering power points in the benches for laptops and/ or phones

Parking can be difficult to navigate and entrances to parking are not the best. Food court is really big and layout is easy to explore. Can get very crowded at times but it can easily accommodate. Security guards are not the best and act intimidating. People here are freindly.
Shops are ok. Not my favorite shopping centre but not the worst. The park across the road is very nice and the views from the high car parks are extremely nice.

Good shops. Great if you like Asian food actually. Dumplings were on point!
