Did you know that Scrub turkeys are Megapodes, a Family of birds who use decomposing vegetation to incubate their eggs collecting it in large mounds. Guess who tends to this large nest? The dads!
Happy Fathers day to all those megapodes and megaDads out there today

After a long and complex rehab, Mary the Lace monitor has finally been released much to her delight. A big thanks to reptile vet Jonathan Howard for his wonderful assistance.
With a last lunge at her carer, Mary lumbered off into the bush glad to be free at last. Godspeed dear lizard ¤Éē¤É▓¤ÉŖ we wish you well

One of our volunteers was driving and noticed a Long Neck turtle trying to cross a road. The volunteer turned around and raced back, only to find that someone else had already stopped and was taking the turtle across the road!
Our thanks to that kind gentleman, we really are lucky to be on the NSW Central Coast full of a kind and caring community ¤ż®¤Éó

A quick and easy guide to baby birds thanks to our friends at Sequin Lodge.
Sometimes we think that the baby is lost but it might just be waiting for mum or dad to return, or tried it's first flight and failed.
If you find an injured baby bird around the NSW Central Coast please contact us on 0243250666. If you find a baby bird and are not sure what to do next, give us a call and we can provide advice ¤ÉŻ¤É”

A big thank you to HomeCare Repair Australia for attending our Flying Fox facility 'Wambina' today to quote on repairs to our flight aviaries and food storage and prep shed.
Your team has been very easy to deal with and the estimator and builder who attended today were polite, professional and have some fantastic ideas of changes that can be made, better than we had ever dreamed of!
We and our bats are really looking forward to working with you further ¤śü¤”ć#homecarerepairaustralia #wildlife

When turtles are badly injured they are 'dry docked' to keep them dry, medication in place and infection under control. To let them continue to feed and drink, a dropped bowl is used that they can reach down and into.
Here a Long Neck turtle feeds on fish pieces while still staying dry. Turtles use water to manipulate and swallow their food.
Wildlife A.R.C is available 24/7 around the NSW Central Coast on 0243250666.

Wildlife A.R.C rescued a Silver gull with fishing line and swivel hanging from its mouth. An xray was performed to double check placement of the unseen hook unfortunately showing two hooks and a much worse condition than initially thought.
Please always take away and safely dispose of lines, weights, swivels and hooks. If you see a seabird with stuck hooks or entangled fishing line on the NSW Central Coast please contact us on 0243250666. Wildlife A.R.C

Unfortunately only 2 days after sharing a post of the dangers of using rodentocides in causing secondary poisoning, we rescued a native Barn owl in the late stages of poisoning.
This darling little chap was too sick for treatment intervention and was sent to heaven.
Please if you are taking steps to remove pests from your home, look at alternatives such a deterrents, live catch traps and first generation rodentocides (rather than second)

4 Eastern Long Neck turtles in care with Wildlife A.R.C catching some warmth earlier today.
Between being chewed on by a dog to a severe fungal infection, they are progressing through their rehabilitation well. 'Dry docking' is used to treat shell injuries while a dropped bowl of fresh water is provided to ensure they get their vital daily access to drinking water.

The cool weather can bring uninvited guests into our homes such as rats and mice.
Rodentocides are commonly used to address this and there are 2 two different ways they can work unfortunately the most commonly used kind can be passed along the food chain and impact our native predators, such as owls.
Our friends at Macedon Ranges Wildlife Network share the following story about the impact on our raptors by rodentocides.
... Wildlife A.R.C is available 24/7 for rescues of poisoned raptors or advice about controlling unwanted rodents round the NSW Central Coast 0243250666

Looks like some good news for wombats!
The NSW Central Coast is a region where mange can affect wombats and if left untreated leads to their death.
Wildlife A.R.C works with landowners to treat wombats infected with mange onsite with appropriate medication which needs frequent application by way of burrow flaps. This new long lasting treatment would be invaluable in effective treatment, we hope it proves successful.
... If you see a sick, injured or mangey wombat around our area please contact our 24/7 rescue line for advice 0243250666.
