About Wollondilly Karate - Trifu Dojo

Teaching students strength of character, compassion, respect, self awareness, focus, courage, determination, discipline & confidence through karate!

Wollondilly Karate - Trifu Dojo Description

Sensei Sarhn McArthur-Gumbley has been teaching karate for Trifu Dojo Sydney for close to ten years (even longer elsewhere).

In 2013 Sarhn and her family, moved to the beautiful, semi-rural Wollondilly shire - for a tree change and the caring community environment.

During this time, Sarhn was teaching her karate skills to her Little One at home (kind of like a home school Dojo because it was too far to travel to Sydney regularly) but now wishes to pass on these karate life skills to all Little Ones in her community. Hence why Sarhn launched Trifu Dojo in Wollindilly.

Through the teaching of karate skills, Sarhn passes onto children invaluable life skills like strength of character, compassion, respect, self awareness, focus, courage, determination, discipline and confidence.

Sarhn’s teaching style with children is one of gentleness and strength. After many years of teaching children from varous backgrounds, abilities and challenges, Sarhn knows exactly what teaching style is needed at every situation, so to achieve the best outcome for her students. All children are treated with respect, commitment and attention – which is expected in return (not only for all Trifu Karate instructors but also parents and teachers at school).

Most karate dojos don’t teach very young children (under 5 year olds) because firstly it is hard work and secondly because instructors don’t expect very young children to have the ability to focus and learn karate. This is not Sarhn’s or Trifu Dojo’s belief and experience. Certainly class lessons need to be structured differently so that age appropriate lessons can be taught and learnt but parents are often surprised in their child’s attention and development growth after learning karate for a bit of time.

Sarhn is proud and humbled by her small part in teaching Ava McCann (Australia’s youngest karate black belt) as a very young child, in her Little Dragons class (now called Ninjas classes).

Great things are possible with positive belief, practice, hard work and yes sometimes sacrifice too.

Shihan Daniel Trifu's voice over commentary, on the first quarter final fight of the Australian Open men's Kyokushin open division.

One must learn quickly to never judge a tournament fighter by their belt. This was our Nic's first ever tournament fight (senior orange 9 kyu belt). Against a senior brown belt opponent in an open division. Nic trained and perpared physically & mentally. Nic not only won this round but went on to win 1st place in this division. Congratulations Nic!!!!

At a tournament, some divisions will have more competitors than other divisions - that is just the way it goes. Our young Ninja in yellow had 15 competitors in his tug of war division. This was his 1st place winning round.

One's first kata competition is a HUGE experience when you are 5. Sensei Sarhn perpared all the students for the 'nerves' of being in a different hall and doing kata by yourself with many people you don't know watching. "Above all if you freeze and forget your kata, don't cry and run away. Just make the kata up and continue". Miss 5 year old couldn't remember her kata but she continued with no tears and strongly faced the judges at the end. She is richer for the experience. #Mega #Proud

Our youngest team member was sick all week leading up to the Australian Open. Last night still feeling sick he crashed in the lounge room beside his 1st place trophy. Evidently he polished his trophy with a tissue before going to sleep. #JustBeautiful 😍😍😍

User

Though first time ever competing, she has been on these mats competing in her mind numerous times - creating the story in her mind of being strong & confident. What she has been telling herself became her reality when she physically stepped on the mats yesterday. She took home the 2nd prize trophy but more importantly, she takes home a stronger belief about herself.

We are all stronger, wiser and richer in character because of the experience of competing in the Australian Open. Sensei Sarhn is again bursting with pride.

Sensei Sarhn would like to say a BIG THANK YOU to Mitch, Kristin & Lynette who helped keep our team going when Sensei couldn't be in two places.
Also a BIG THANK YOU to the MASSIVE cheer squad who came up to support the team! It was just so wonderful to see so many from Wollondilly in Sydney cheering everyone on.
Thank you finally to Shihan Daniel Trifu and Sensei Lynne O'Brien. A great experience for all of us at Wollondilly Karate.

I have known Sarhn for over 10 years. Had the privilege of attending Sarhn's adult karate classes . I found her to be a very patient person , and has a knack of adapting to each persons learning capabilities.

It's nice to see that she is passing her karate knowledge to the little ones.
