The Makery Window Exhibition Space is coming to life!
From Feb 20–March 6, a group of professional and emerging artists will be combining their artistic talents to transform the Makery Oxford St Window.
‘THE MAKERY R-EVOLUTION’ - a fantasy window Wonderland will coincide with Oxtravaganza and Mardi Gras 40 year celebrations.
... On Saturday Feb 24th for OXTRAVAGANZA, artists will be entertaining the audience with live performance and on-street interaction followed by a ‘WEDDING rehearsal’ to be held in the window. Audience participation will be required and EVERYONE IS INVITED TO ATTEND! Anyone helping in the window will be asked to ‘dress up’ in costume eg wigs, masks, feather boas etc, as part of the day’s festivities.
Artists and performers during the two week collaboration thus far include Sharon Williams, Jaqi Pascoe, Alex Xand, Trena Lowe, Kathryn Taunton, Paul Mallam, Josie-Lynn O’Malley, Marion Wait and Ashlee Bucholtz and Paul Lockwood as well as visiting guest artists Ian Thomas and Cameron Stead - incorporating various mixed media artworks, body painting, costumes, and live performance, installation, music and more.
As a finale, an AMAZING window installation will be created to celebrate the Mardi Gras Festival on Oxford St on March 3. THE AUDIENCE WILL BE ASKED TO PARTICIPATE IN A SPECIAL INTERACTIVE EVENT ON THAT DAY!
Artworks from the MAKERY R-EVOLUTON will be available for sale in the shop between Feb 20-March 6 as well as a small photo book to be sold in-store later in the year – documenting the two week collaboration.
So, if you’re not doing anything between Feb 20- March 6 come on down to The Makery @ 106 Oxford St, Darlinghurst and join in the celebrations. You just never know what surprises may be in store when you get there!

As part of MEET ME IN DARLO, Sydney artist Lucy Hughes will be doing a live painting (is there any other kind?!) in our Oxford St exhibition window from 12 - 5pm accompanied by the very handsome local DJ Big In Japan playing his favourite feel good house and disco tracks from 3 - 5pm.
