Work Shop Objects Description

Our Story

Brisbane-based WORK-SHOP by MGDC is the creative collaboration between an architect and builder. The business is the realised dream of two passionate artisans who shared an idea to create carefully hand-crafted timber objects and furnishings made with timeless design and sustainability in mind. The couple behind WORK-SHOP, Georgina Goddard and Morgwn Wilkie, have harnessed complementary skillsets drawn from careers in design and manufacturing to forge an authentic local maker experience in Brisbane. Georgina is an established architect and designer, and Morgwn is an experienced builder and woodworker. In 2013 the pair set-up shop in Newstead to establish a practice that creates unique timber products for Australian spaces. From their cosy workshop and showroom they develop and manufacture a range of quality objects for the home, working closely with architects, designers and homeowners in providing pre-built and custom products.

Our Aim

At WORK-SHOP we aim to provide high quality timber objects, and fittings, for Australian spaces with an emphasis on style, sustainability and craftsmanship. Each object that leaves our factory is constructed for a lifetime of enjoyment by its new owner. Our love of simple, beautiful and sustainable products has allowed us to create an inspiring range that will live on generationally. The small nature of our practice allows us to provide customers with a local, caring business approach and our significant industry experience allows us to manage projects of various sizes. Our desire is to always work with passionate, like-minded local customers, who appreciate fine design and understand the importance of supporting their local maker community.

Fine Design, Craftsmanship & Sustainability

Marrying quality design and craftsmanship with a strong emphasis on sustainability - at WORK-SHOP we are proud to offer a true local business experience. With a preference for timber plywood which is Australian-sourced and FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified and completed with low impact finishes. We source local materials for every step of the creation process, with our paints manufactured in Byron Bay, and our clear finishes supplied from southern NSW. WORK-SHOP objects are provided with care instructions, and care kits, to reinforce our belief that beautiful timber products should be built to last.

Objects

Each object in the WORK-SHOP range has been carefully constructed, with every aspect of the design tried-and-tested to form a refined piece, skipping ornament in favour of simplicity and functionality. WORK-SHOP’s hand-built objects are available in two lines - NESTA and WORK-SHOP.

NESTA

The NESTA range is made for little hands, and playful young minds, with the low-impact, easily assembled pieces including a timber children’s space and a sand play therapy system, which doubles as a drawing table. Finished in no VOC paints, utilising super low E timbers and durable Australia made curtains, the NESTA range combines a lively and inviting design and function for children’s play with an unobtrusive stylish aesthetic to fit seamlessly into the family or therapeutic teaching space.

WORK-SHOP

The WORK-SHOP range strikes a fine balance between style and utility in providing furnishings for the modern Australian space. The signature piece in the WORK-SHOP range is the pre-assembled timber bike rest available in plywood or hardwood timbers to suit your existing style. The stand features a classy custom leather sling that is sourced from local artisan makers utilising Australian leathers and low impact processes. Just like the other objects in the range the Bike-Rest serves a practical purpose, but is aesthetically pleasing, boasting clean lines and seamless construction. All of WORK-SHOP objects, which include Key-Rests, Book-Rests and storage systems have a mindful emphasis placed on ease of assembly and disassembly.

All items are crafted by WORK-SHOP in Australia, with a preference to using high-grade Australian FSC timbers, low and no VOC finishes and Australian-made fixtures.

Custom Experiences

WORK-SHOP was born through the collaborative process, and as a small business we want to continue working in this tradition with our clients. Whether you are an architect, interior or industrial designer, stylist, builder or a project manager we encourage you to become part of the product development process. From our workshop we can fabricate items to suit the needs of your commercial or residential project and we can adapt our existing designs to meet specific requirements to work in your space. We enjoy sharing our passion for Australian design and can source other substrates /objects and manage production for you if so required. Custom commissions are estimated on a project-by-project basis.
