About Yarn Australia

Our vision is to build connection and unity between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People and Non-Indigenous Australians

Yarn Australia Description

YARN Australia is a Sydney-based Social Enterprise, founded in 2007 to unite Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders with non-Indigenous peoples, within safe and respectful spaces.

We hold conversations, workshops and events to establish open and respectful dialogue and explore 228 years of shared Australian history.

Our team facilitates intentional conversations suited for groups of 15 to 30 participants, with the aim of building relationships and guiding people toward a united future.

OUR PROGRAMS

The Community Program is our “Culture and Conversation Event”, with stories shared by local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people (including Elders), along with food, music and dance.

The High School Program is in partnership with Sydney Pacifica, which provides students an opportunity to learn about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, by understanding the value of cultural pride and celebration. This program has been developed for both Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and non-Indigenous students.

The University Program facilitates workshops focused on specific topics - contact, dispossession, colonisation, assimilation, resistance and self-determination – within safe and respectful spaces.

The Sixty Thousand Arts and Digital Program invites Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to share stories, music, dance, art and food at public venues and festivals, igniting conversations about Australia being home to the oldest living culture on Earth.

Corporate Program is our Cultural Competency Training initiates dialogue on how to respectfully work with Aboriginal and Torres Islander people and communities. We believe if people from different backgrounds share their stories in an engaging and respectful way, they can build meaningful relationships, remove perceived barriers and encourage the understanding of cultural complexities.

Our story is to share a vision of a united and inclusive Australia.
