Yellowbird Wellbeing Description

Yellowbird Wellbeing, is a boutique wellbeing business, founded by Tracy Clarke [Registered Psychologist] & Todd Clarke [Specialist Disability Driving Instructor & 4th yr Occupational therapist in training] .

The landscape has changed! !

Since the inception of the National Disability Insurance Scheme [NDIS] the landscape of disability services has changed forever. The NDIS is being progressively rolled out nationwide in Australia. Since the trial site commenced in the hunter region in 2013, there has been a noticeable absence of new and innovative models of support including short term accommodation for adults with a disability. The options for therapeutic interventions is confined to 4 walls with limited options. The options for short stay, otherwise known as respite in the old disability sector system was confined to centre based respite with limited options. A form of deprivation, this occupational injustice in the era of the NDIS is where creative, innovative models of care and wellbeing is born.

This is where Yellowbird Wellbeing is different. If you are looking for something different, innovative, non conformist but underpinned with professional, qualified, experience staff and evidence based research then you have chosen the right provider.

We are a registered NDIS provider providing unique and boutique supports to & with people with and without a disability. We are located in the beautiful Hunter, surrounded by all that nature has to offer. We provide services to those with or without an NDIS plan. We also will travel throughout the Hunter, Central Coast, Mid North Coast & Dungog region delivering a range of different supports and wellbeing groups.

At the core of our boutique wellbeing business are family values as we are a family run business, that has the client at the centre of everything we do. These values are crucial to our ability to be present, authentic and provide evidence based practices through non traditonal applications and environments. We depend on our clients feedback and input to ensure our programs are tailored to their needs.

As the evidence piles up, it is becoming increasingly difficult to ignore the mental health – exercise connection. A growing amount of research indicates that engaging in regular exercise can have a positive impact on mood, self esteem, productivity, concentration and management of anxiety and depression symptoms. Research is also starting to demonstrate that creativity, self and emotional awareness and other positive outcomes can heighten during movement. It is therefore not surprising to see psychologists, occupational therapists and other allied health practitioners embracing exercise as part of a treatment plan for those with psychological conditions, as well as using it as a preventative measure for the general population.

Research also shows there is a direct link between mental health and spending time outdoors. So, what about integrating psychological therapy with nature? Incorporating the outdoors into clinical work can be highly effective whilst still upholding ethical boundaries such as confidentiality. It is not a workout alongside your therapist, but it is about drawing on the healing power of nature and the outdoors, removing the restrictions of an office and getting up off the couch to actualise health and exercise resolutions and draw on a greater perspective.

By promoting deeper ways of thinking and processing feelings, fresh air and exercise can make a world of difference to someone’s experience of psychological therapy, and the session is set by you – it can be meditative and relaxing, or faster paced and action focused. By enhancing mindfulness, fostering holistic wellness and encouraging awareness, all whilst moving forward, a combination of exercise and therapy aims to translate awareness into action. Experiencing therapy with a registered and qualified psychologist in fresh air and embracing movement is a double dose of biological and psychological behaviours promoting optimal mental and physical health.
