I am writing to express my sincere thanks to Daniel and the team at Zink & Sons Tailors for their outstanding work and craftsmanship that went into their creation of my recently acquired Black Tie suit.

My written brief to Daniel was exacting and for today quite unusual - the suit needed to be precisely to the 1930's 'Gold Standard' (the era when it is generally accepted that 'Black Tie' came to stand alone and apart from other forms of formal dress). The cloth selected was of course English worsted wool (Dugdale Bros 1896) and the model - peaked lapel, single breast with no vents - complimented by English silk grosgrain lapel facings with matching u-shaped evening waistcoat and trousers cut for braces with a single silk grosgrain band running down the leg. Zink even created a bespoke shirt - Marcella shirt Birdseye pattern double cuff, bib & collars with internal tab so stop that riding up when one stands up. A bespoke and hand made self tie & fitted bow tie of the same silk grosgrain a vital accessory.

To create a suit to this standard requires a significant amount of hand work, skill and numerous fittings. Fortunately the single malt scotch whiskey flows freely at Zink. To do this suit justice I have completed my ensemble with era correct accessories - 1920's black mother of pearl Krementz cufflinks & shirt/waistcoat studs, Albert Thurston (1820) suspenders & sock garters, 1920's Double Albert pocket chain & 1909 Elgin pocket watch, black A. Gammarelli knee length silk socks and Crockett & Jones (1879) patent leather Oxfords. Red carnation boutonnière, white silk pocket square and white silk Wellington scarf complete the picture.

I rarely write reviews but on this occasion I feel obliged to share my thoughts - Zink was really able to bring my vision to life. I commend Daniel (and his dad of course) and the Zink team of tailors to anyone who feels the need to be (and look) a little more than average. Thanks guys and see you again soon.
