Today was my first visit here and I was a little unsure what to do with my dog, the girl on the phone was so lovely and fitted me in. When I got there the staff were lovely, Eloise was great in getting my dog to be comfortable with her. He left with a bandage cast on his front leg which the nurse did in the most AMAZING pac-man print she had made Herself, this wasn’t just printed on this was authentic custom made! I’m so pleased with this clinic. 10/10

Hard sell from Vet who twisted my poor old dogs leg till she yelped to sell me medication for arthritis and expensive.

User

Seems a more low key vet without the pushy hyp of others I have been to.

User

They have always taken such great care of my pooch. Friendly and helpful.

Couldn't have chosen a better Vet. Shannon and the team were genuine, compassionate and amazing during the tough process of looking after and eventually having to put down our dog. Spot on diagnosis and genuinely interested in the best outcome for our dog. Thanks again.

Thanks dr shannon , zooey was a bit of a mess when she went to the vet pooing out blood, not sleeping etc, the diet prescribed and the medications used had zooey comfortable enough to sleep all afternoon, and a few days later she is much better, thanks for the quick and effective service.

So happy with the care we have received for our puppy. He had a bit of a rough start with the runs and the receptionists were so helpful and friendly and were able to help us avoid bringing him in if it wasn't necessary. When we came in for his vaccination everyone was absolutely amazing. He was given heaps of treats and pats to ensure he doesn't develop a fear of the vet. When we returned home we were discussing with our neighbours how pleased we were, only to find out that they also go to this practice and have been impressed with the outstanding care by Shannon. Lovely to see a work place that clearly enjoys and takes pride in their work.

On behalf of all the vets at Belconnen Animal Hospital, a massive THANK YOU to all our invaluable nurses, on National Vet Nurse Day! You keep the place running, and keep us sane, and we wouldn't be able to function in the slightest without your tireless work. 👏🎂🍾

Congratulations to our clients Kate and Tom on their recent wedding which featured Barkley, a regular visitor to Belconnen Animal Hospital, looking dapper in his collar and tie!

Only 1 day until Belconnen Animal Hospital is at the Belconnen Twilight Markets this Friday the 5th of October from 4pm!
We will be raising money with a raffle for Pets in the Park, who help care for the pets of the homeless. There will also be face painting, pet toys and treats for sale, and if you bring your dog along, we will be offering free dental checks and weight assessments.
So come down to Margaret Timpson Park in the Belconnen Town Centre and say hi to our friendly team! We will be joining over 60 stallholders that are offering food, drinks, entertainment and crafts. It should be a great evening!

Whisky won the award for the most photogenic patient of the day on Saturday when he came in for his puppy vaccination. How cute is he?

We would like to welcome a new member to our growing team at Belconnen Animal Hospital! Lana is joining us as our client relations manager, and so if you are bringing your pet in to us in the future, you can expect to see her smiling face welcoming you at reception. Lana brings a wealth of experience to the role, having previously worked for the past 6 years for the Animal Referral Hospital, and we are lucky to have gained her as a team member.

How lovely is this!? As a thank you for taking care of their cats, Emily and Karla, over the past many number of years, Lyn and Peter Little handmade us this cake. It even features our origami animal logo around the edge! Words cannot describe how appreciative and thankful we are of this amazing gift, and to be blessed with clients that appreciate our work. #toogoodtoeat

Public Service Announcement Many people may not be aware, but throwing sticks for your dog poses a real and life threatening risk.
Recently we saw Sam, a Border Collie, present to Belconnen Animal Hospital having run onto a stick that ricocheted off the ground and lanced him in the back of the throat as he went to grab it. This type of injury is unfortunately not uncommon in dogs chasing sticks. Sam was "relatively" lucky that while the stick tore a 3cm hole in the back of h...is throat, and penetrated about 6cm deep, it avoided vital structures, and our vets were able to clean and suture the wound. Many other dogs have not been so lucky with pets dying from lacerations to the trachea, oesophagus, or even the carotid artery or jugular veins.
So please, don't throw sticks for your dogs, instead, stick to balls, soft frisbees or larger chew toys, because they might not all get off as lucky as Sam did.

Most of our patients get an annual heartworm injection to ensure they are safe from this sneaky parasite that takes up residence in the heart. Just to remind us all of the importance of constant vigilance when it comes to heartworm, we recently found out about a dog on the central coast who was diagnosed with heartworm via a prostate sample! Yes, that is no typing mistake, it was undergoing testing for an enlarged prostate! Punchy was not yet showing any signs of heartworm in...festation (bearing in mind the only clinical signs are sudden death and coughing up blood), but it was picked up incidentally on another test.
Incidentally, figures show that 40% of cases of heartworm are on monthly preventatives, and let's face it, it's easy to miss a dose here and there.

Some visitors to Belconnen Animal Hospital in the past couple of months may've heard some construction noise at times.. Well it's all been worth the disruption to our day, because we now have a brand new state of the art treatment room for taking the best care of your beloved family members. With operating lights, piped oxygen, wet dental bench, and additional anaesthetic stations, all of the staff are loving the changes.. Just check out our before photo to appreciate the change! Coming up the next few months; updating the (very dated) reception and consulting rooms!

Meet Luffy, pictured here with his owner, Andrew. Luffy has been in to see us at Belconnen Animal Hospital a lot in the past 6 weeks. He visited us for surgery to have a lump cut off his paw, but because it was quite large, there wasn't enough skin for the surgeon to close the gap from where it was removed, so as a result we had to bandage his leg and allow new skin to slowly grow over the area. As a result Luffy has had to visit us frequently, sometimes daily, for the past 6... weeks to have his dressings changed while the new skin regrew.
Despite so many visits, he was always such a good patient, holding perfectly still while we managed his dressing changes, and finally he has gone home without a bandage now that his skin has fully healed over. To thank him for being such a good doggo he gets Belconnen Animal Hospital's bravery award and goes home with some chew toys from Kong.

Chloe, the guinea pig, recently came in to see us for a large lump under her belly. After having x-rays to make sure the cancerous growth hadn't spread to her lungs, she has surgery to remove it, and has since made a very speedy recovery. Here she is looking cool in her hand made Elizabethan collar to prevent her from damaging the surgery site.

At Belconnen Animal Hospital, we occasionally have clients that have difficulty making it in to the vet with their beloved pets. By allowing restrained and controlled pets on public transport, some of these clients may be able to more easily seek the veterinary care that their pets require.
