Mulligans Flat Woodland Sanctuary Description

We aim to sustain a representative diversity of woodland plants and animals and inspire respect for and understanding of the beauty, species and ecological processes of Australia's woodlands.

The Sanctuary provides an excellent scientific setting for those studying woodlands and ecosystem restoration.

Well laid out bike and walking paths, easy walking.

User

Great area for a bushwalk, run or a cycle. The twilight tours are excellent, but expensive. The eastern bettongs are very cute at night - if you're quiet and look around they'll let you get quite close.

User

If you like nature, native animals and bush walks, this is a fantastic location to explore.

User

A great walking track

User

Great access to some really good Bush walking trails. Lots of wildlife to see beyond the standard Kangaroos and Wallabies with turtles, lizards and Echidnas smattered throughout the woodlands.

User

A nice walking / riding circuit to help keep fit.

User

A beautiful conservation ark on the northern border of Canberra. Echidnas are easy to spot (there's usually a couple within 100 yards of the main gate) and there's plenty more wildlife to see - especially at dawn and dusk. The night tours are also brilliant. Bring your kids and your camera.

User

Panoramic views lots of flora and fauna.

Celebrating the work of our amazing guide and ecologist – Kristi Lee – this NAIDOC week. #becauseofherwecan. She made it into NITV's list of inspirational Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women doing extraordinary things:
'22-year-old Githabul (Bundjalung) woman, Kristi Lee works as a guide at Mulligan's Flat Woodland Sanctuary, ACT.
Kristi has an undergraduate degree in ecology and particularly loves reptiles. She inspires others to care about conservation and works wit...h ecologists to monitor reintroduced threatened species wildlife like quolls and bettongs.
She works incredibly hard to develop and incorporate Indigenous knowledges and stories into her outreach and tours, and runs unique engaging events in the community like dot painting and 'Kids on Country', where she takes young ones out to learn about the woodlands from an Indigenous perspective. This year, she ran the Reconciliation Day event at the Jerrabomberra Wetlands.'

Little Tawny Frogmouths try to catch some shut eye on a windy day at Mulligans Flat. The poor nocturnal sods cling on tight to their treebranch bed.

Our current Allstar work experience student – Dhani Gilbert, was on the radio this morning speaking about the important role of women in the Indigenous community – tying in with NAIDOC Week's 2018 theme 'Because of her, we can!'
Definitely worth a listen! We have some brilliant future leaders here in Canberra!

Photographer Julie Clark recently snapped pics of these little balls of fire. Scarlet Robins are altitudinal migrants. This means they travel to higher mountainous areas in the summer, and come back to low-lying woodlands like Mulligans Flat in the Winter. #animalsofmulligansflat

Caught on camera! Our baby quolls may not have left home yet, but they are easing into childhood happily and healthily. Watch them frolic with Mum outside their den #meerkatorquoll #toocuteforcomfort

Love it. However could not get back through one of the gates to find my way back to the carpark. I think it was the daisy gate - opened one way but not the other. Not all the trails are marked on the map. Needs to be a more detailed map and I think all the gates should have their names on them to help workout where you are.
